I see you made the IR Insta feed yesterday. Lol famous !!
All I hear is max out lol
180kg is heavy. I tripled 190kg which is also heavy like a week ago. Most ive ever squatted is 195kg.
So try 190x3 again with the other stance and see how it compares. If one is significantly better then you have the answer, if both are about the same then either it doesn’t matter or something in between would be better.
We’ll see what I can do if I get a big heavy day
Don’t overthink this.
The ideal technique is one which permits you to
- Reach legal depth
- Lift the most weight
3.not get injured
Experimentation is you friend
- Check
- Is pretty close. Still experimenting
- Good so far.
Ima follow up on this thread FWIW if anyone ever comes across this.
It’s been like 3 months now. Have stuck with flats and wider stance while using narrow stance heeled squats as a accessory with light weight for higher reps.
My flats/wider squat is now clearly stronger than my previous style. Set rep PRs easily and much more to come as I look towards 500/five plates in the coming months. Could’ve been due to just getting stronger or better technically overall but FWIW I like new stance more.
Sounds cliche but I can engage my hips better to bring them through on the ascent and that reduces the stickiness of my sticking point halfway up and doubles with a better a ability to grind whereas previously the sticking was hard and abrupt.
Cues I’ve found very effective for me are to get hips forward and back under the bar ASAP/forcefully and allowing my torso to lean (just a bit puts me in a decent position because I’m relatively upright any style)
I know this is an old thread and I’m new on here, but I’ve been getting really deep in the book “Becoming a Supple Leopard” by Dr. Kelly Starrett, but I think some of what was discussed here relates to torque. Sometimes the “lats” cue is really more of a “break the bar” cue, both of which are meant to maintain tightness in the upper back (which Nate said) and keep the shoulders externally rotated. As for the squatter in question, I wonder about ditching the heeled shoes, stepping out a little wider than the narrow stance, and then making sure the feet get “screwed” into the ground, and then push the knees out ie maintain torque in the hips, taking slack out of the system. It is really difficult to get good torque when the feet are beyond 12 degrees (feet straight forward vs a broad duckfoot stance often adopted with a wide squat stance). Just more food for thought!
