Some various images of Conan
Frazetta
Arnold
Saturday morning cartoon
Ralf
There was this Ralf Moeller Conan TV show back in the mid-90s…cashing in on the Xena/Hercules shows.
Oops…I see you posted Ralf…sorry.
Can someone find a better pic of Arnold in Hyborean Camo?
This is probably the baddest he looked as Conan

I dunno. Well, that IS pretty badass. But there was a scene I believe at the end of the first Conan film with Arnold where the narrator talks as the camera pans across and up Arnold sitting on a throne, bearded and looking all pensive.
That image has always stuck with me for some reason.
Meh…I’m away to find it …
hah, that was easy ^^
edit - I remember it looking a bit more badass though =/

It makes sense though. I absolutely love the original soundtrack and the 2000 recording (some of the tracks are plain perfect), but its speed wouldn’t fit this new movie, judging by the trailer at least.
Conan the Barbarian soundtrack carried the movie. There’s an important absence of dialogue. From the riddle of the steel until he’s training and then set free, ignoring the narrator, there’s easily half hour. Conan just mutters two sentences to Valeria in the entire movie and so on. The acting skills of the main characters are quite limited as well, so the music allowed the movie to flow nicely without the need of dialogues or astounding acting.
For now, I’m disappointed, but I will watch the movie anyways. [/quote]
Great interpretation/description and I agree completely. It’s cool to see someone who ‘gets it’. If I had time I’d offer a bit of a rant as to why the original is my favourite film ever, but you covered a lot of it. Too much credit goes to Arnie and not enough to Milus, Poledouris, and the supporting cast (JEJ, Max von Sydow, Mako). Perfect combination of epic storytelling and Nietzschean philosophy.
The trailer looked great for an action film of its genre, but terrible in the sense that it’s kind of the exact opposite of what I wanted to see. Trailers can be misleading though.
What other sword and sorcery movie was available with CTB came out. Specially rated R. So many afterwards really sucked, Sword and the Sorcerer, Beastmaster etc. CGI is great now but I though the snake in CTB was fairly well done. Looking forward to this new one. It will be hard not to compare.

I didn’t think Sword & Sorceror was THAT bad. The actual sword was a bit stupid but the lich (?) was a pretty good villain and the script had a good sense of humour. Beastmaster was a bit, meh, but it was more aimed towards the younger audience I think (Tanya nude scene aside).
Excalibur: still a great movie in my opinion. Very dark for it’s time and a great fuckin cast.
Dragonslayer: plays out a bit long if I remember rightly, but wasn’t bad overall. Was the first memorable dragon that springs to mind.
Krull: cool weapon, terrible villain…opps nevermind. Not Rated R I think.
edit - does Time Bandits count? Awesome fucking movie and, technically, fantasy to be honest.
Hawk the Slayer - I must’ve watched this about 10 times it was THAT terrible.
Lol…the Warrior and the Sorceress with David Carradine. Also terrible but forgivably so due to the sheer volume of ta-tas on display.
