He just told me the other day - it’s only a month til hockey starts again!! Frankly I can’t wait to start, I miss it. He doesn’t play spring or summer hockey anymore. He plays lacrosse in the spring, and 's been skating two nights a week at Merrimack over the summer for goalie lessons. He’s dying to get back to game action.

In addition, two of the older goalies at his high school are leaving to go back to public school, so it will be interesting to see where he ends up, even though he’s only going to be a freshman.

I’m actually pretty excited at how he’s really getting into lifting. He even got me to take him to the gym last week when I was sick and couldn’t work out - he didn’t want to miss any time. I’ve got to get him stretching more though - as a goalie, I don’t want him losing any flexibility.

My 15 year old nephew plays for the Avalanche in Hooksett. I showed him zercher squats and deadlifts because he lifts at home and doesn’t have a squat rack. Damn kid deadlifted 250 lbs 13 times in my basement a couple months ago. And he can’t weigh more then 145 lbs.

Can’t say for sure if tequila is anabolic, but the rest certainly did me good. I’ve really felt strong since coming back.

It’s still swollen and painful, but I’m going to try to work through it tonight - we’ll see how it goes.

Did the toe cause any problems while lifting?

Only during deadlifts. It was sore as hell, and it really swelled up - I couldn’t get my shoe on the next morning, had to wear sneakers in to the office.

Wow, your kid is doing really great. He could keep up with Bulldog’s son. Is he really excited about weightlifting or is he just doing this for other sports?

He started doing it for other sports - primarily hockey and lacrosse - but he’s really starting to get more into it for it’s own sake now.

C3 - Squats

Bar x 10
135 x 10
185 x 6

225 x 5
255 x 3
285 x 1 (PR)
315 x 1 (PR)
325 x 1 (PR)

I’ve never tried going above 275 due to concerns about my back, but I’ve been getting good reps at 275, so I decided to try moving up. I was walking on air after getting the 325 - though I could barely walk by the time I left the gym. The 325 might not have passed in competition, but if not, it was very close.

Leg Press
4 pps x 15, 5 pps x 15, 6 pps x 15, 7 pps x 8

Leg Extensions
100 x 15, 125 x 15, 137.5 x 10

Leg Curls
75 x 12, 75 x 15, 87.5 x 8

Did some curls between sets - BoyfromMass is away for the week visiting his grandparents, so I was on my own.

Barbell Curls
60 x 10, 70 x 10, 80 x 10, 10

HS Preacher Curls
62.5 x 10, 75 x 10, 87.5 x 9

That is an enormous PR! Congratulations!

I’ve had a broken toe before and that is one annoying injury. I hope you are feeling improved.

Good news, no ill-effects with the back after yesterday’s heavy squatting.

I was half-expecting to be unable to get out of bed.
