Best Tricep Exercises?

I just do CGP as a way to help my strength gains along on everything else (the other tricep exercises and pressing in general)… I don’t approach it from a “yeah, CGP is gonna make my tris huge” -point of view personally, especially if I’m going low rep/very heavy.

As for the guy who said it messes with his rotators, sounds like bad setup tbh. Gripping it too close? Back set up wrong?

Never felt I got much out of CGBPs… I’ve done reverse grip benches in the past for tris, and while I don’t believe the gym-myth that it hits the inner head of the muscle, I do get a good pump and burn from it.

With a very wide grip and elbows tucked it does… I haven’t done the free weight version all that much, but the smith swrgb is a staple of my tricep routines and you better believe you’ll end up feeling that one in the long head when you do it right… It’s pretty much the only press where I can get anything close to that kind of long head activation. Regular grip close in the smith pressing towards feet and up works ok there, but still nothing compared to SWRGB.

Now if you do the free-weight thing and use a close reverse grip, there isn’t really much reason for it to hit the long head… Still, wide grip+tuck should do it to some degree. Ask MM, he does or did 'em as a main movement.

Oh I agree, but it’s more from the position/angle of your elbows than the actual hand positioning. A couple years ago my brother went above and beyond to explain to me why one of my little ‘gym laws’ wasn’t entirely accurate -lol. I actually think about it whenever I see someone doing tri pressdowns with a reverse grip. Sure it’s nice for variety’s sake, but you can use an overhand grip and just make sure you do some work with elbows tucked, and some with elbows flared.

Never understood the point of putting your ass off the bench when doing Inhuman presses. CC or anyone else, can you explain what this does?

I was wondering the same thing. I noticed Wojo doing that in this video for RGBP in this video as well:

“a little trick Dante taught me”

Why though? And should this be done only when doing an exercise like this in the Smythe or can it also be done with freeweights.

You don’t have to do it… If it helps you, do it, if not, don’t…

Do any of you have one of those crappy lifefitness flat (seated) pressing machines?

Try doing them with pretty much just your upper/midback in contact with/pressed against the seat (shoulder blades together obviously)… You’d basically put your feet on the little bar at the bottom and push yourself up so your ass isn’t in contact with the seat… Feels something like a decline press and it’s a lot of triceps and not much chest if you do it right… Sort of like that. I can’t get the same feeling using a regular setup, but whatever works for you…

(note: It’s still a shitty exercise and I don’t recommend doing it, just mentioned it for demonstration purposes)

(so I find that if the weight pretty much just rests on my upper back/shoulder blade area while doing that kind of dedicated tri press, then it helps me use mostly my tris for some reason, but I’m not saying that’s a universal thing)

Also seems to keep my back really tight and makes it easier to pull the bar apart or perhaps more fittingly, press out at an angle rather than straight to the front if that makes sense. Feels like that, basically.

WRT to IhHuman press- It takes away the arch. Feels more comfortable when pushing the bar towards your feet, against the rails of the smith. I feel its easier to keep constant tension on the triceps (to the extent that that’s possible) compared to bb cgp.

Anyone say shakeweight yet?

I like dips they give me a great pump.I also throw in standing barbell extensions once in a blue moon.Fuck this thread made me realise that I do fuck all direct work for my tri’s.I may work to rectify this.

The gym i used to go to in Western Ma had a Hammer Strength Dip/Tricep pushdown machine. We used to fill the bars with plates and bust out heavy drop sets. That was an awesome machine for triceps.

Well mission accomplished i did the skull crushers today. I think ill stick with these.

Just get bigger all around, and do direct work for everything.
