I have not had an actual cardio routine since basketball & track in high school (and that was years ago). I have decided to use running as my cardio and I want to know when the best time to do this is (for maximum fat loss). I have heard before that the best time is in the morning before breakfast. Is this correct? And if so, is it okay to down my morning supplements then run for 25 min. or so and then eat breakfast?
Thanks
Bump.
Nobody? I am just looking for a little advice. More than likely it doesn’t really matter when you do your cardio, I just want to know if anyone knew for sure. Or, you can just put when you do your cardio. It would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Morning fasted state/semi fasted state cardio can be very effective at burning unwanted fat. But, you must be very carefull with this type of cardio as it is also the easiest way to burn up LBM (YOU DONT WANT THAT).
The thing is you really wouldnt want to run or even jog for this type. You would want to keep it moderate aiming to get your HR in the 65-70% range. I like using weighted hill walking etc. when I employ semi fasted/cardio.
To really answer your ? on when is the best time for cardio. Well, I would haver to say what ever time you will drag yourself to do it.
Hope that helps,
Phill
What up splkast. I read in the “Cardio Roundtable part 2” where all the big guns on this site talk about the pros and cons of early morning cardio. Check it out:

It’s a little less than half-way down the article.
I agree that running isn’t a good idea before breakfast. I used to do 20 mins cardio before breakfast where i’d alternate between skipping and working on a punchbag. It was actually really good fun!
I think that after a weights workout is always a good time to do some cardio. Muscle glycogen stores wil already be depleted and it can aid recovery.
Phil:
Great answer, as usual!
