Julianne,
I consider myself an intelligent guy. I graduated a little over a year ago from a small engineering college (it?s about as geeky as you can get, think Caltech, just as small but with even less women? good looking women? Forget about it!) I was surrounded by ?men? who could not tell you the difference between a penis and a vagina much less differentiate between a dumbbell and a barbell. Granted, it was an engineering school so what did I expect?
Well, I had a couple of choices, I could spend four years of my life while in college stuffing my brain silly with all you ever wanted to know about 0?s and 1?s (I did a focus in computer engineering) all the while watch my testosterone level drop and my penis shrivel away until I become one of those peeps at my school, or I could try and fight back the system. Well, suffice to say I chose the latter of the two options. Soon after starting school, I went on a search for a sport (I did XC, wrestling, and track while in high school). Luckily for me, there were colleges close by who offered club sports. I checked out the rugby team and instantly fell in love with the sport. I also picked up weight lifting, having found this site a year or two earlier. I was insane. On top of my ridiculous school workload, I still managed to play rugby, lift three or four times a week and go on runs/sprints/do plyometrics. On top of that, while I studied abroad in Australia, I also picked up Pankration (think UFC) and since I have been back, transferred over to Muay Thai.
Now I work at an engineering firm. Every meeting I go to, I survey the room, and odds are 90% of the attendees are male and 90% of those males are as wide as they are tall. It is disgusting! These men are also the same ones who go out and eat hamburgers for lunch everyday, who does not exercise at all, and who sits in front of their computers day after day! They are walking health-risks on top of convincing cases of how males will eventually evolve (or degenerate) into walking pigs like those in Animal Farm! My attitude from college carries through; I will NOT allow myself to become one of those ?men?.
So a bachelor?s degree and two concussions later, here I am working for an engineering firm who?s paying for my Masters, also in computer engineering. I continue my lifting regime, waking up at 5AM, (I am now working off of the Mutation Series by Christian Thibaudeau, keeping a log, and counting my calories) along with Muay Thai, street basketball, some running mixed in with good ol? interval workouts. I am constantly being educated by professionals such as yourself posting on T-Nation.
I have a solid foundation not only in terms of experience in the weight room and as an athlete, but perhaps more importantly, in my mental capacity to push my body to its limits. I am far from my prime and know with even more guidance my body can output even higher performance. As an athlete, I have always abided by three qualities: discipline, dedication, and tenacity and will continue to do so for as long as I live. Thank you for your consideration.
