Years ago Rick Steamboat had a gym in Charlotte and I lifted there when I was home from college … He was a super nice guy, and I used to see Lex Luger and Arn Anderson there all the time - Luger was always ripped and strong as hell (and a dick, lol). A lot of the wrestlers lived in Charlotte at the time and trained there …
My first day there I went into the locker room and Ivan Koloff was packing up after his workout … He was talking to someone else and I was SHOCKED to hear him speaking “normal” - without that famous Russian accent! … After all those years I was convinced he was actually from the Soviet Union, lol …
Back in the 80’s I saw Ivan Putski in my gym too … He was maybe 5’6 in height but looked to be easily as wide … Just a blocky brick shithouse of a guy … The Warlord and both Steiner brothers threw weights around that made everyone in the gym just stop and watch with their mouths open - and this was a pretty hardcore clientele compared to most gyms today …guys were complete animals
