Best Posers

Who do you all think are the best posers to study and learn from? Ed Corney is always cited, but any other names spring to mind?

Rich: Russ Testo, without question. He has taught posing and conducted seminars to bodybuilders for years. He is sort of the “posing guru”, especially for the basics. His tape “Posing The Extra-Ordinary Way” is usually available in the Mags, and in one of the mags, he gives monthly tips. A search should also yield you something.

John Grimek comes to mind. Awesome muscle control! Steve Reeves. Chris Dickerson. Arnold was damn good at posing.

Mohammed Makkawy comes to mind. The most important thing is to strike the obligatories correctly before thinking about transitions or dance moves.
I’ve only seen once posing routine by Russ Testo from the '80’s and it was the most ridiculous thing I ever saw.He looked like a stick and did these embarrassing moves like climbing a rope etc.Having the physique is number one of course.

…and the point IS??? You saw a routine that you didn’t like, therefore Russ cannot instruct on posing???..and the “T-Mag” staff is not a bunch of 300 pound ripped behemouths…therefore they can’t teach me anything about workouts and nutrition…and Bobby Bowden is a slow, old man who drinks orange sodas with peanuts in them…can’t possibly know College football…Russ is an experienced instructor on posing…my recommendation stands…check out the tape…

Mufasa, like I said,I’ve only seen one routine so he could still be a great poser. The problem with that particular routine was that there were no actual ‘muscle’ poses! It was just a bunch of silly dance moves and transitions.
That stuff is fine in moderation but there should be some muscle display also. And it doesn’t hurt to have some mass.He was like 130lbs. max. This was in the mid 80’s so he is probably a lot bigger now.

Well, Vince Taylor’s “Terminator” routine is my all-time favorite. But I think that you first have to objectively evaluate your physique to see who you should be studying. Ed Corney’s a good choice because he had a sort of “medium” physique - not too huge, not too long and lean, etc. - that most anyone could relate to. Frank Zane is another of the old guys whose routine was perfectly suited to his body. So if you’re huge, maybe Kevin Levrone would be a good choice; if you’re the small aethetic type, Lee Labrada or Shawn Ray might help. Dorian always had interesting routines, and I like Lee Priest’s as well. Stay the hell away from Orville Burke, Paul Dillett, Nassar, etc. And for god’s sake, if you ain’t got rhythm don’t try to dance! (“A man’s got to know his limitations…”)

Sorry, Berzerker…a bad day at work, low carbs and probably the Tribex…made me a little “edgy”…usually not so defensive about post!..Mufasa

Bobby Bowden drinks orange sodas with peanuts in them?

…yep!..it’s either orange or grape…I THINK orange…
