I’ve had solid luck in my metcons, I really like squatting in them, they have just a sliver of a solid heel and have held up well throughout my overuse of them, but are comfortable enough to wear doing whatever.
I’m so fucking cheap that instead of replacing my chucks I bought an £8 pair of knockoffs from primark and tried to train in those. They’re so wide my little narrow feet slide around like hell in them. Almost ripped my knee if half trying to lunge wearing them.
So now I train legs barefoot. Yup, I am that guy that everyone hates, walking around the gym barefoot looking like a douche.
I just got my second pair of metcons. I do everything in them except squat. I like to be barefoot or use the Mark Bell Reeboks for squatting.
Socks man, just as good and no stares!
Best lifting shoes I’ve ever worn are tennis shoes. Excellent lateral stability for squats and deads and good forefoot mobility for any running you may want to do as well as farmers walks, sled pulls, etc.
I can relate. These puppies were from Wal-Mart for $20 Canadian, so like $4 US. Over 2 years of training in these bad boys, just breaking them in!
I bought the Metcon 1s (I think they were 1s) after all the CrossFit reviews and HATED them. I wore them once and returned them.
I have flat feet and over pronate. The Metcons actually forced me into an exaggerated over pronation. I had instant knee pain while jogging.
The reality that I learned is that there’s no shoe that does it all. I wear the Brooks Beast ($160) running shoe for my warmup and conditioning and then switch to my Chucks ($40) for lifting.
Chucks. I use them for everything bar squats, bench and DL (and TBH I could use them for those too and sometimes too). I also like Asics Matflexes.
I have these 15 buck addidas originals shoes. They are fucking awesome - 1cm flat sole that isn’t flimsy but isn’t soft.
I have no idea what model they are which ia shit as these are coming to the end of their life and I wsnt a new pair (kinda look like the nobull ones posted earlier)
I love buying shoes when they’re on sale. I’m a baller on a budget.
I’ve tried the Reebok Nano’s (I think 4 or 5) and honestly didn’t love them. They were just a little too stiff for anything but static lifting.
I recently got the Nike Metcon Reppers (in UNC colors - awesome!), and they’re the best all around shoe I’ve ever worn. Enough cushion that my knees don’t feel like death when I move around, and stiff enough I feel normal squatting. Bonus - they’re cheaper than the Metcon 3s!
All that said, I wouldn’t buy any of these except on sale at the factory stores.
Disclaimer #2 - I’m not as strong as the above posters. I can probably barely scrape the 3-4-5 plate benchmark, and if I could still come close to a 6-minute mile it would take me 9 weeks to recover.
How and why was a basketball shoe made with “soccer players in mind”?

For those players so shit they resorted to kicking I’m guessing.
In the gym I’m barefoot 90% of the time, unless the owners are there and then I wear either my Nike free 1.0 or New Balance minimums. Good shoes, although the NB’s are showing signs of wear and tear a little too early for my liking. For squatting I wear Do-Wins.
I sprint on grass so I use soccer boots with cleats for sprinting. If I was to do sprints on land I probably would look at some running shoes with minimal cushioning.
I own some Converse for everyday wear, but I find them too cumbersome and not comfortable enough for the gym.

Thanks, everyone. I’m going to check a few of these out this week. Appreciate the feedback.
I had a pair of Merrell minimalists for a few years that were great but I lost them in the river one day. I replaced them with New Balances and the soles didn’t hold up; started peeling back from the toe. I went with a pair on Innov8 minimalist after those and they’ve proven worthy over time. I don’t lift much in them as much as I do outdoor stuff like biking or kayaking. I’ve been eye hustlin’ those No Bull trainers for a little while now tho. They’ll probably be my next pair…
Ya, I’m really digging them. I just wish I could at least try them on.
I’ll probably hit up Dicks today and try the Metcons, the Merrell’s if they have them, and the Asics @Dr_Pangloss posted. It seems like the Nano’s are a lot of mixed reviews, but I might try them too.
I’ll probably check out some BBall shoes too. I’m hoping to get back into playing this year anyway.
Back in with indoor soccer or futsal shoes. Similar to BB Shoes
Big range of shoes to cater to every variable: surface, traction, cushioning, arch support, weight, width, material etc.
Lotsa designs to increase sexiness
Cheap (relatively) and widely available
To be more in line with your thread and actually offer something helpful:

Super reasonable price, although i don’t have a reference point of quality or performance with this newer model.
I’ve had a pair of matflex 2’s for 5 or so years. Still holding up great, still good grip on the soles. I would wear them for all my training if a heel didn’t help my squat, clean, and overhead so much. I do all my events and conditioning in them.
Soooo, I think I’m going to bite the bullet and try the No Bull Trainers. I’ve been watching a ton of reviews and there’s no consensus whatsoever, lol… And, I can’t seem to find the Metcons, Nano’s, or the Merrel’s (which I think are a lot like the FiveFingers, which I’ve used in the past) to try on, which is a bit ridiculous. I tried 4 different stores yesterday and nothing.
I thought this guy made some good points:
Plus, I think they look cool so even if I hate them for training I can just wear them out or whatever…
Don’t think you can go wrong with a decent returns policy.
