I find every day injections with 1ml insulin syringes, and 1/2" 30 gauge needles work the best. Inject into the belly fat, with almost zero pain. Slower release into the body, and less chance of damaging nerves or muscle. Look into it if you haven’t.
What length? I’m using 1” 23g and when doing quads and delta I leave a little needle out but it makes injecting without moving the needle in and out challenging
Hey systemlord- how much are you injecting when doing so with the insulin syringe? I have been doing sub-q for years and want to shift back to IM. Tried to do quads, but it seemed like my muscles twitched a ton when I was attempting. Assuming middle- outer muscle?
She assured me it would be no problem, just a simple injection of 1 cc. She came home with some nice yellow packaged syringes she got from the hospital. They were 20 gauge, 1 1/2". So for the next 10 weeks she gave an injection every Saturday in the glute. Believe it or not, I could hardly feel that “garden hose” needle.
As I continued down the road, injecting myself, I used 22 gauge, 1 1/2" needles for all oil based IM injections.
When I first started self injecting I was so excited I forgot to switch out the 18 gauge I used to draw with the 29 gauge I was supposed to use to shoot - bled like a stuck pig.
I’ve used 23ga for glutes for 20 years. I have a couple reasons. It draws and dispenses easily. When your playing contortionist to reach around to your ass it helps to have an easy pin. Also, glutes are pretty pain free for all gauges.
I used to draw with a 23G and then inject with a 25G. It may not draw as good but injects just fine.
I just mean if you have the choice, why go for the thicker needle to inject? It’s not a rare needle like a 1 inch 27g. You can literally buy a box of 100 on Amazon for cheap.
