Best Needle Size for IM?

Hi crew,

Just after a bit of advice on best needle sizes for a glute intramuscular injection.

I am currently injecting E3D and just want to make sure I am using the current needle size to draw and inject with.

I am 6ft 4 and about 110kg with about a bit of belly fat.

What is the best practice?

Thanks

23g, 1 inch

Same size I use as well. So far I’ve used it successfully for glute, quad, and delt injections.

I have found that 25g 1" works great and is a little less painful than 23g.

I find every day injections with 1ml insulin syringes, and 1/2" 30 gauge needles work the best. Inject into the belly fat, with almost zero pain. Slower release into the body, and less chance of damaging nerves or muscle. Look into it if you haven’t.

Still doing it old school I see, I use 29 gauge insulin syringes in the shoulders and quads to minimize muscle tissue damage.

What length? I’m using 1” 23g and when doing quads and delta I leave a little needle out but it makes injecting without moving the needle in and out challenging

Hey systemlord- how much are you injecting when doing so with the insulin syringe? I have been doing sub-q for years and want to shift back to IM. Tried to do quads, but it seemed like my muscles twitched a ton when I was attempting. Assuming middle- outer muscle?

1/2” 27ga

This thread has a little age to it, but I thought I might add a little levity.
In 1977 I decided to add injectables to my AAS contest prep selection. My fiancée was a respiratory therapist at the teaching hospital in the city, and she volunteered to give me weekly injections of Deca for my next contest.

She assured me it would be no problem, just a simple injection of 1 cc. She came home with some nice yellow packaged syringes she got from the hospital. They were 20 gauge, 1 1/2". So for the next 10 weeks she gave an injection every Saturday in the glute. Believe it or not, I could hardly feel that “garden hose” needle.

As I continued down the road, injecting myself, I used 22 gauge, 1 1/2" needles for all oil based IM injections.

I got smart, I inject in the deltoids. There’s too many nerves to hit in the quad.

When I first started self injecting I was so excited I forgot to switch out the 18 gauge I used to draw with the 29 gauge I was supposed to use to shoot - bled like a stuck pig.

For the first 6 months on TRT I was using 18 gauge syringes in the quads.

If people must use a 1 inch needle why not go 25 gauge… I don’t get it. Why all the 23G or less advocates? Why?

They are readily available, not scarce. You can get them in the pharmacies, from Amazon, etc.

Someone explain to me with the fascination of harpooning yourself???

I’ve used 23ga for glutes for 20 years. I have a couple reasons. It draws and dispenses easily. When your playing contortionist to reach around to your ass it helps to have an easy pin. Also, glutes are pretty pain free for all gauges.

Other areas I use 25ga though.

I used to draw with a 23G and then inject with a 25G. It may not draw as good but injects just fine.

I just mean if you have the choice, why go for the thicker needle to inject? It’s not a rare needle like a 1 inch 27g. You can literally buy a box of 100 on Amazon for cheap.

I wouldn’t if you have a smaller one that’s works well for you.
