Best Home Gym?

does anyone know any good stand alone pull up bars. I’m looking for one for my office(in home office) that I could use for pull ups and then to hang from. Also any suggestions on bands that I could use for assisted pull ups.
you should try one of these if its for a home office.

I have recommended ‘Body Solid’ brand equipment here a lot but I’ll recommend it again.

I sold Body-Solid for two years. They do make pretty nice stuff.

Ironmasters are a little cheaper, but I wanted the easiest/quickest change DBs, I have no patience.
My friend has the 55lb version of these, they work pretty damn well.

Since all he does is P90x, they are perfect for him.

There is also a home gym thread in the T-Cell and there was a big one in GAL as well. Do a forum search. Both threads had lots of photos of peoples’ beautiful home gyms as well as the sites they frequent to shop for items.

Good luck.

This took me awhile to dig up.

Re-reading some of that thread kind of bummed me out, realizing how many great posters are gone.

I started buying equipment from them when I was 18 (first job! So i started buying a gym… lololol) and I have absolutely 0 complaints. The ‘power line’ series is hugely economical and unless you are a monster won’t give you any trouble.

I’ve seen a lot of people complain about them not being sturdy but if you can follow the manual and put it together right it should be fine. I have almost a complete gym and I’m only 21 - if you can spare $300 or $400 a year you can keep adding on easily.

Only thing I would say is to buy a more expensive rack because while their power line rack is quality… it doesn’t weigh much (100lbs or so) and therefore is prone to tipping if you are say bench pressing and don’t put the bar back on the lift offs daintily.

Also, their machine’s leverages (power line seated calf raise is pretty odd) can be very different than what you may be used to in a commercial gym but they get the job done and they have a lifetime warranty.

Body solid makes other lines too that are more expensive (commercial rated, more normal leverages, etc). I’m not usually one to endorse brands heavily but I stand behind body solid completely.
I have a Body Solid power rack and Body Solid seated leg curl/extension machine.
They make great stuff and have great customer service.

New great posters will emerge. Not all doom an gloom.

We still have great posters here.

I do miss some of the old T Cell members though.

Get this rack, a bench and 300 lbs weight set.

My setup:

Rack above: $320 shipped
350 lbs from Modells using coupons: $200
Bench: $100

You can get an Olympic DB from Walmart for 20 bucks.

My basement ceiling is 7 ft. The rack fits with 2 inches to spare. You can easily take it to a metal shop and have a few inches cut off and have them weld it back just as strong. I doubt it would cost much.

I got the bench below for $100 2 years ago new. It’s rated for over 500 lbs.

Any recommendations on the best home gym to get? Bowflex, something else etc?

I live in a very small town and for the last couple of months I’ve been going to the country club for a discount, but when that time period wants out I’ll have to pay a ridiculous membership fee to keep going (several $k). And that’s on top of the monthly I’d have to pay to keep going. Not worth what they have in their gym IMO.

So as a better alternative I’m looking to set something up in my basement instead. I don’t have a lot of room so I was thinking something like a Bowflex, but was wondering what you guys think. I’d need something that could go heavy enough and still allow me to do all the exercises I need to.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!
search craigslist and slowly build up a home gym start with a rack bench olympic bar and plates

I started out doing this and it got to be a major pain in the ass. 9.5 out of 10 posts was someone selling a cheap ass or overly fancy bench with 300 lbs. I ended up getting a used rack and bought my bench and plates from York Barbell. Cost me probably a hundred bucks more, but way less aggravating.

Epic cars are almost as good at adding weight to your total as epic beards.

Another vote for BodySolid or if you want a cheaper option, Powerline. I went for Powerline as I realistically could not get to weights needed to require a BodySolid;-(

TQB

Edit: Just saw that BodySolid now owns Powerline. Should make shopping easier… (However they dropped the mid level rack I use.

x2 for Craigslist. I got 3 compete weight sets with trees for $160 from a teacher a town over because their high school was redoing the weight room so he was getting new.
