Best Football Movie

What do you guys think is the best football movie you’ve seen? My personal choice is The Program.

im pretty sure we had this exact thread not to long ago, but yea ill second the program. gotta love lattimer

I have a tie: the program and the replacements, with the replacements obviously being more of a comedy, so it depends on my mood.

North Dallas Forty, or Friday Night Lights.

North Dallas Forty was pretty awesome.

MAS*H was great too. Does that count?

Remember the Titans or Friday Night Lights

I think “Any Given Sunday” probably had the best actual football gametime footage of any I’ve seen.

Nothing will make me turn off a football movie quicker than seeing some guy stick his arm straight out against another player who’s running full speed, and this motionless clothesline somehow manages to cause the sprinting player to backflip 59 times before he hits the ground.

I’d say “Remember The Titans”, while a decent movie, might have the worst gametime footage I’ve ever seen. It actually makes me feel uncomfortable to watch it, it’s so bad.

How about The Longest Yard (original version)?

Remember wasnt about the football. I liked it a lot. I would like to have seen a more accurate desription about the movie i.e. not so Disney’fied. But it worked and I enjoyed it so I cant complain too much…

Bauers high school highlights that he gave to PSU recruits.

…you meant for entertainment purposes, right?

Exactly, it wasn’t all about the football, but that doesn’t mean you have to put the most horrifically unrealistic gametime footage in history in there.

It was a good movie about a great story, so I wish they hadn’t tainted it with A) pee-wee football-esque playing footage, or B) the “Disney-fied” effect, as you put it

Now you just don’t make any sense at all.

Why the hell would I give my highlight tape to recruits? I assume you meant recruiters? What a silly child you are.

Also, thanks for reminding me of my highschool highlight tape, I need to bring that thing out of retirement and watch it. That “Bauer97 is tiny” thread has left me in need of an ego boost…

Now you know how hockey players feel watching any hockey movie besides “miracle”

I remember a disney movie called “H-E-double hockey sticks” from quite a few years back. It was supossed to be the NHL because I believe the stanley cup was involved. Anyhow, the hockey was just AWFUL, embarassing, and they would show the same clips more than once in the same game.

I second that. Varsity Blues was good also.

I find the same with Basketball movies. In Coach Carter, the Richmond team does not miss a shot for the entire movie.

I can’t decide between Varsity Blues and Any Given Sunday.

Pacino’s ‘Inches’ speech is on my Ipod. It’s a good one to listen to before games or training.

I forgot about my favorite movie though. I really liked friday night lights. I could draw a lot of feelings from those players as a hockey player in new england with friends in minnesota

The thing I didn’t like about Friday Night Lights was that I expected it to be closer to a documentary. I read the book, and the movie changed a whole lot from the book. It especially dodged the racism issue, even though that was one of the biggest issues with the real team. Also, the movie made Booby Miles into a hero, which he really wasn’t. It was good as a movie, but not an accurate depiction of the team that it was supposedly based on.

I really liked Gridiron Gang also. I didn’t even know that was based on a true story until the end of the movie.
