Today with all the bullshit fighting styles and new rules, in my opinion fighting doesnt serve its purpose. Going back and thinking about everyone in the past, and today, who do you think the best fighter the world has ever seen is? Bruce Lee takes my vote…
The two biggest(and most bullshit IMO) changes to MMA were the addition of gloves, which doesn’t protect anyones head (but it does protect the strikers hand) and the addition of time limits(again, another rule to favor strikers).
Take away those BS rules, and in his prime, Rickson Gracie was the best MMA fighter that ever lived, bar none.

I’d agree that the addition of gloves and time limits changes the strategies employed in MMA. But, I’d have to disagree with Rickson being the best ever. Who did he beat that was world class? No one. Sure, his brothers all say that he is great, and maybe he is. But, he’s never proven it in the ring. And honestly, I think there are other guys out there who are better than him who also have never proven it in the ring.
If you’re talking about who the best MMA fighter of all time is, then my bote goes to Fedor. Sorry, but he’s beaten all comers and many of them are world class competitors. No one past or present is better.
If you’re talking about who the best fighter ever in a real fight is, then I don’t think that’s a fair question. There are so many guys out there who are incredible fighters who are essentially no names, or at best, known to a handfull of guys. And you can’t really collect all the fighters from all time and have them square off one on one to see who’s the best.
Good training,
Sentoguy
If you could take different fighters from different eras and pin them against each other, who would reign supreme?
Computer says…

Holy shit, it’s been a while since we had one of these asinine Bruce Lee threads.
The best fighter right now is Fedor Emelianenko, Wanderlei Silva is also pretty fucking special. Bruce Lee was a film star, not a rounded MMA fighter.
I was always curious about those shaolin monks. I like to see one of those guys fight. They spend every waking minute training to the point where their bodies do anything they are told to. I saw a documentary where they were pouring this 200lb iron kettle with one hand and they weren’t allowed to spill a drop…and hanging upside down by their toes from wooden beams. crazy
There was a video on google where they had a monk spar with a black belt TKD guy. The monk didn’t attack, all he did was evade, making the guys best kicks seem like they were being thrown by a 3 year old kid. Then he did these crazy flip kicks and the TKD guy ran from the ring. Search it on google video, it was nuts.
another fucking Bruce Lee thread.
Chuck Norris of course.

I’m not going to say bruce Lee was the best figter. But he was not just a film star! He Made MMA! He was a great Martial Art Guru! He lived martial arts and he was an actor second! Study up next time!!
There are so many great fighters in the world past and present… They all have a punchers chance! This is more a mental thing but Mike Tyson would make me poop myself if he ran at me!!
Holy Ass-Fuck! How come no one has said Genghis Khan or Attila the Hun? Those guys would scare the crap out of any of today’s MMA guys. And you can throw Bruce Lee into that mix as well. Chuck Norris, however, he stands alongside the two aforementioned greats.
Let’s not forget about Achilles, or this guy either:

I realise that Bruce Lee trained in martial arts (I can’t believe I’m getting into this discussion) but he didn’t compete in MMA tournaments.
There are no documented incidents of him getting taken to the ground and submitted (due to the fact that he never competed with rules allowing such an occurrence), but you can bet your ass that any of the Heavyweights in Pride would ruin his shit.
To qualify as being the greatest fighter of all time you have to be a heavyweight. If Heavyweights weren’t superior to their lighter counterparts there wouldn’t be a need for weight classes.
Total elimination absolute showed that Heavyweights will beat smaller guys (even if the ‘smaller’ guy is Wanderlei Silva). Ergo, Bruce Lee is not viable for the title of ‘T-Nation’s greatest fighter of all time’.
I think I changed my mind, my vote goes to Jack Bauer.
Ghenus Khan destroyed 50,000 villages and towns, and he piled the heads up outside of each one. He was a man to be feared. Attila the Hun took on the Roman empire and could have sacked Rome. What about the Roman gladiator Spartcus who become a Roman legend. These guys were bad man!
There have been US soldiers who were warriors of great ability: Army Rangers, Navy Seals, Delt force,
and Marines. The greatest fighters are those who risk it all for others.

I always get a kick out of “TV” bad asses. They never shoot right. He’s holding that thing all wrong. And remember Mel in Lethal Weapon when he shoots the happy face in the target? Blinks every time he pulls the trigger.

I see your point and agree… But to say that Bruce is Just a Movie star “Actor” is just silly! And Sure in the past we have all seen the smaller man beat a bigger man but when we look at trained fighters, in most cases the bigger man will win!!
I dislike Bruce Lee Blog Wars as well… but he was the man back in his day!! Of course just like Arnold was to bodybuilding, Bruce is to MMA!! But neight Bruce or Arnold could compete today. Through time sports evolve!!
I’m the best fighter ever. I made Bruce Lee cry. I’ve got it on tape. Seriously.
Idiots…
Though I won’t pretend to be familiar with many of the past fighters, I’'ve watched a ton of the fights in the last, say, 8-10 years. Based on that, I’ll throw another vote in for Fedor Emilianenko.
His combination of technical skill, raw power, agility, ferocity, and TRACK RECORD of beating the best around makes him Top Dog in my opinion. If we start throwing in guys who never competed, then it’s all pointless speculation.
Ok, so who wins between Fedor and a Shaolin Monk?
