Best Combat Movie

Good choice. This scene has always stuck with me since I had watched the movie before I started lifting… so the black dude seemed like the most gigantic BAMF a guy could fight and exactly what I wanted to look like.

The way they filmed it was nice, too. I’ve always had a soft-spot for scenes with a more “blue collar” approach to combat - where the moves aren’t as artistic and fancy (no swordplay on treetops or whatever) but they give you the sickening feeling that any of those shots would knock your head off in real life.

Same here. When I first saw that movie, I was way smaller than the guy in that fight. I think I started dieting down after seeing that scene. It was like every girl in the theater went silent during that scene…including the one with me damn it.

“Kiss of the Dragon” had some of my favorite martial arts choreography . . . but it was one of the worst movies I have ever seen.

Two movies, it seemed, were happening at the same time: a semi-compelling story of an out-of-jurisdiction law officer taking down a corrupt foreign bureau, and a martial artist fighting against a whole country of bad guys.

Some how, these two awesome movies got drunk and tried the forbidden sex position “Ear Canal Impregnation of the Retarded Unicorn,” producing this piece of shit.

Again, all the fights were excellent. JL and the hooker chick had ZERO chemistry, and only one motherfucker in the whole flick spoke more than two words of clear English. Hell, Jet LI, the most accomplished dramatic actor in the cast, only speaks two words: “Hi” and “Ya.” Everything else sounds like crickets fucking in my brain.

Someone needs to splice all the fights together, edit out the non-action sections, and release it on dvd and uStream as “Jet Li Fucks People in the Face with Violence.”
LOL.

Sadly, this is also true. Great fights. Zero romantic chemistry. All of this equals not enough of either. They should have had MORE fights and left it at that. No one thought Li was going to have sex with the lead chick.

…and for those who may laugh…I actually did feel SOME kind of chemistry with Romeo Must Die between Li and Aaliyah. As far as overall plot working with fight elements, I really think that was one of the better ones involving a lead female.

The protector is my favorite so far, I hope Tony Jaa starts doing more movies. I saw Ong bak 2 recently and it was not as good as the previous 2 I saw with him. There were a lot of cool scenes but this was the most memorable.

YOU sir are dead on. About time someone said it. Ong Bak was good but roughly made, and the triple re-plays after a while got on my nerves. Ong Bak 2 (Tony Jaa’s first attempt at being a director) was to drawn out.

The Protector was his best work. Fast, Violent gave you many of those jump in your seat put your hand over your mouth while you yell “Holy Sheeeeeeeet what the hell was that” moments and no wire work or CGI just straight up violence.
The Protector has one of the best fight scenes i’ve seen in a while. The continous shot on steady cam was the longest steady cam fight scene shot in movie history I think. It was awesome.

I’ve actually been to one of the wire work studios in L.A. that Jackie Chan helped pay for. Not a huge fan of wire work but it was pretty awesome. Movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon really showcase how wirework can be art, not just over the top fight choreography.

Also, Undisputed 2 and 3. My goodness, the fight choreography in those movies are amazing. Plots not that great, but the fighting is. So much so that Undisputed 3 won best choreography film award.

UNLEASHED with Jet li anyone? LOVE that movie. The animalistic fight style that Li portrays is epic. I have to say, besides Fearless, which is also a great movie I think UNLEASHED is Jet Li’s BEST acting performance IMO.

OK, I’m going piss off die hard Combat people for throwing in a Anime but

NINJA SCROLL - was one of the most ruthless action packed movies ever. Until that movie the thought of headbutting a man to death never even crossed my mind hahahahahahaha…Just raw, And it made me walk around for a half hour thinking “I wonder If that is possible.”

Ninja Assasin and Fearless are ones everyone should check out. Especially for the weapons use. The traditional 3 section staff that Li uses in fearless is one of the hardest weapons to learn in Wushu. Also, Rain does justice to the chain whip which is another hard weapon to learn and use.

Raging Phoenix wins it for me thus far. = )

No love for Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can?

Lord of the Rings

I’ve seen so many action movies.

Punisher

and just when Jaa is finished with this guy…2 bigger ones show up.

This was choreographed by “The Lizard” from Five Deadly Venoms.

Yes, that to me makes it even more bad ass than I thought it was already.
Another one that had two cool scenes and lots of boring nonsense.

Oh and why are we forgetting Donnie Yen? Sammo Hung himself said Donnie Yen is the closest to what it would feel like to fight Bruce Lee today.

KILLZONE (SPL)

KILLZONE

Donnie Yen vs Sammo Hung in KillZone

Dont forget Donnie Yen in IP MAN!

This is awesome right here. Unleashed. Another current fave of mine was Chocolat (sp?). Back in the days of yesteryear…Five Deadly Venoms…Blind Swordsmen, Blind Fury (based on the previous), Any of the flicks shown on Saturday Afternoon Kung-fu theater. The Last Dragon gets a nod.

The blade fight between Tommy Lee Jones and Benicio Del Toro in The Hunted was hot.

Let’s see…some others…Cyborg was cool. Let’s see if any of you remember this one: Class of 1999 Part 2. It starred the dude from Step by Step (Sasha Mitchell, I think his name was.)

Penitentiary series. The fight scene in the last Universal Soldier between Van Damme and Lundgren was pretty epic. I’ve gotta do some more thinking on this one…A lot to ponder.

EPIC! JET LI IN UNLEASHED

City on Fire was unbelievable.
