Yeah…but it likely will NOT be the same as anyone else’s.
That is pretty much an “end thread”.
There is not a clear-cut answer to this question. Obviously you should be eating at a caloric surplus to build muscle, but there is debate as to exactly how much of a surplus is worth maintaining to achieve optimal physique improvements (as in, maximum muscle gain that can be retained after cutting down to contest shape).
Getting bigger in general (fat, muscle, and water) will improve your leverage and help you to move more weight. However, the more BF you gain, the more extensively you will have to cut in order to hit contest leanness, and a harder cut puts you at risk for losing more muscle in the process of leaning out.
You need to know how well you retain muscle during a cut so you can run the cost/benefit for yourself and strike a balance between not shorting your gains and not wasting your time putting on mass that you’ll end up dieting off anyway.
BTW, I’m assuming that you are talking about BF relative to overall aesthetic goals since you posted this in the bodybuilding forum. You have 20 posts though so I’m not sure how safe that assumption is though. If your goals are different, the answer to your question may be as well.

Lol giving the benefit of the doubt for now, down to go trollhammer if needed
The bodyfat that motivates you to lift.
6-15 percent tends to be a good range for growing muscle.
IMO There is no reason to ever be over MAYBE 16%… For me, 9-11% (by my estimates… could be plus or minus a percent or two) is where I make the best gains.
So what’s the best? Figure it out for yourself! But if you are over 20% then you just need to learn how to train and eat and you will gain muscle and lose fat simultaneously.
this thread is a waste of time. just look at the thread with CT and profX regarding bf/muscle gain discussion.
no point in hearing the same **** thats written there again.
what strikes me as funny is that most of the big guys who are lean and hold the opinion you should never ever get above 8-10 bf built most of their size when they were softer/no abs.
for those of us not on a gram of test a week and with human non colemanic genetics, shit load of food is used for pushing our weight up to get stronger and bigger while spending some time outside of our pussy pull comfort zone. that what its all about.

regardless of popular opinion the leanest you can get is the best. Putting too much into getting and staying lean is not optimal but neither is becoming too soft. The more fat you carry the worse your hormone levels get for muscle building because of more aromatization of testosterone into estrogen.
