Anyone know anything about them? I sort of inherited one. It’s obviously better suited to hunting than home defense but, for home defense anyone know what would be a good cartridge would be?
They’re no good. I’ll send you an appropriately sized box, with a shipping label so you can send it to me for proper disposal.
If you really want to keep it, I recall Idaho discussed his SWAT teams search for the best shotshell for indoor, use, which is a compromise between desiring stopping power, but avoiding over penetration. And I believe they settled on Number 4s.
Rule #1 the shells chosen must run through the gun with almost no FTF or FTE. You won’t know that until you shoot a box or two of them.
Rule 2# what’s in and around your home? (family, neighbor’s apartment etc…?) Slugs are probably always a bad idea for home use.
But remember even 000 premium buck is only .36 diameter, 70 grains at 1300ft per second (muzzle). So each pellet has essentially half the momentum of a normal .357 round. You want to score with as many pellets as possible.
I’m sorry. I should have been more specific. I meant does anyone recommend any specific cartridges. I won’t use slugs in my house for obvious reasons. It won’t be my go to weapon but just in case I would want to be prepared to use it if I needed to.
It’s funny because my father left his shotgun with his cousin when he moved. His cousin, who I call an uncle, told me if I wanted it I could come and get it. I don’t hunt and he does so I said no. A few years go by and another uncle comes by my home with something wrapped in plastic. Turns out to be this shotgun and he said my other uncle gave it to him to bring to me. I don’t know why, maybe he needed to make room in his gunsafe. Anyway, I look at the gun and it isn’t my father’s. His had some engravings of ducks on it and it had a wood (maybe that was fake) stock and forestock. It was a beautiful looking gun. I’m trying to figure out what happened. I know the Benelli is an expensive gun and I read some good reviews so I want to keep it.
The other thing is I have to find out what the laws are now. In CT they have changed a million times. I would like to take it to the range and try it out, I haven’t fired a shotgun in years, but I don’t have any documentation for it.
I would try 2 3/4 inch number 4 shot. Buy several boxes from many different manufacturers as you can find. They will all pattern differently and some may be more reliable than others. Then there are different chokes, and tighter chokes will make tighter patterns (definitely a good thing), but won’t affect the reliability of your shotgun one way or the other.
Benellis are beautiful shotguns. I always liked the Italian shotguns and motorcycles.
