Benching Phobia

I pretty much always bench without a spotter. You should know after benching a few times when you are nearing failure. Just don’t push it too far. I’m not sure how you could still fear benching with a spotter. I mean even if the 185 lbs got stuck on your chest, he wouldn’t have to be strong enough to pull all the weight off. You’ll be pushing it toward him as well. When I max out my spotter (who’s not strong at all) pulls 315 off when I fail. I’m pushing up as hard as I can at the same time so its not a big deal.

And worst case, even if the bar gets stuck on your chest without a spotter it’s not the worst thing in the world. Just roll it downward off your chest, over your belly and toward your vagina. You’ll then be able to sit up and get yourself loose.

Or if your still too scared use the Hammer Strength machines. They’re not so bad. IMO, dumbbells are worst. If you’ve ever had and arm go out while working out to failure you’d know why. I’d rather have a bar to the sternum than a dumbbell to the mouth.

Okay i get ill stop being a pussy, this thread can die now. But im sure this thread will get a couple more posts tell me not to be a pussy because i didn’t get it the first 50x rite?

Well since there has only been 40-something posts we’re not quite to 50 yet, unless you count the multiple times people have said it in one post. Still, you must admit I did mix my general name calling (get hard, don’t be a pussy, you’re weak, give up trying to add muscle, go shoot yourself, you’re an embarressment etc etc, ok, I hadn’t put some of those in yet but hey, I took the second chance) with some good advice.

Good luck, don’t drop a bar on your chest and cause a cardiac arhythmia…sorry bout that, couldn’t resist.

I am a little girl when it comes to the bench I have made progress in it but nowhere to what I should be at. Primarily because i am scared when i bench. Atthe moment im doing 185lbs for reps about 7-10 trying to increase. I have a hard time because I never push myself as hard as I can when I bench i get so scared even with a spotter like i never feel really secure.

I mean squatting is no problem i have the safety bars there to protect me if i dont complete the rep but when im benching no safety bars just my judgment or a random guy that i asked to spot I can’t ever put my trust in him to let me go to failure.

I would FUCKEN love to use the squat rack to bench but there is only one in the Gym and i would feel like an Ass to take it away from somebody who wanted to use it for squatting. Any ideas to help my Fear?[/quote]

Surely this is a joke ??

YOUR SCARED of benching ???

Look for the biggest guy… get him to spot you… problem solved.

Jeez man grow a pair, SCARED of benching !!!

This forum is crashing and burning lately.

I got stuck under the bar at home a few times too. Its not that bad. The only thing that hurts afterwards is your ego.

Lift explosively.
Stop the set when the weight slows down.
Do exactly 25 reps no matter how many sets it takes.

Then move onto an exercise for a different muscle group entirely.
