Beginning again, looong layoff

I realize this site is for the hardcore and serious weight-trainer. However, other sources of info are geared toward those who are more into being like everyone else. My situation is that due to some heavy duty life changes, I have been away from lifting for about 15 years.I need to lose about 125 pounds and regain some much needed strength. I have had a check up from the Doctor and been given the OK to begin to pursue a more active lifestyle. My question is, where do I begin. I am 43 years old, and am interested in a power lifting type protocol. Would the T-dawg beginners program be the best place to start. BTW, I think with the T-dawg diet, my diet is under control. Thanks for any help.

Well hugh, If you coming in from a long lay off let me remind you of a few facts. I gather your primary goal is fat loss. First consume less than you burn each day. Second, engage in aerobic activity 4-5 days per week. Third Lift weights. Start slow, ask questions, and stick with it.

Good luck, brutha! You’ve stumbled onto a great place for motivation and information. I’ve made some pretty nice changes in my body since coming here and I’ve got confidence you can do it!

The best place to start with is definatrely diet, but EASE into it. GO ahead and give up sugar for now, then you can slowly start changing your habits while easing into weightlifting and cardio. Be careful of doing too much too soon - don’t burn out. But if you’ve got the willpower everyone here will keep you going! Best of luck.
