Im always on the lookout for lean beef for a cheap price. Usually I will look for roasts on sale and cook them in the slow cooker till they fall apart pour off the excess liquid add some chili powder and some salsa and split it up into about to 3or 4 plastic containers and i have lunch for bout 4 days. This usualy runs me about 1.79 to 2.19 per lb. Today at the store i noticed that they have sliced beef hearts in a 3 lb pack for .89 cents per lb.
if i were to prepare this the same way it might be edible and damn cheap…
My question is how bout the nutrition content.
is it high in fat? (looked lean in the bag)
is it still a good protien source??

For 4 oz raw: 19g P, 4.3g F with 1.3 g coming from saturated fat. Its about the same as eye of round.

Is it eat-able or would it just be nasty…
It has been a long time since I have had beef heart, and I hated then (I think I was 15 or so). My tastes have changed, but I am not a big organ meat fan. I really do not have an opinion. If you do decide to buy it, just remember that it is a frequently used muscle, therefore it requires moist heat cooking (stewing/braising) or it will be tough. i do have some recipes. If you need them let me know.
