tried modern bcaa today for the first time. took a while to fully mix, but did mix clean eventually.
I think it was the white raspberry flavor, it didnt taste like i expected, but it was by far the best tasting bcaa i had ever tried, although i did add a few drops of stevia and some lime juice.
Hey all, I have never used BCAAs before and I just ordered my first jug of Scivation’s Xtend. I plan on using it on mornings when I am training fasted, as recommended by the Leangains protocol. To give you some background info, I’m on the smaller side, 5’6’', 149 lbs, cutting. How much of the BCAAs is appropriate for me at this point?

.22g/ pound of weight or lbm
.44/kg of weight or lbm
I forgot whether poliquin uses lbm or weight
Next time if you want to be more cost effective just buy it by the kilo from nutraplanet. Xtend and purple wraath are too fucking expensive.
not exactly. you get 8g of bcaa per serving. for you to be at the designated poliquin dosage you need to consume 4 servings a day that will last you a little over 20 days. The dosage I’m at i can get 30 days same for same price. it saves you a few bucks but your mixture has vit b6 and citruline malate so thats an added bonus.
BBB i understand leucine can increase protein synthesis. i also understand that ingesting 30g protein will increase protein synthesis by 50%. I’ve heard that anything past 30g there are no improvements in protein synthesis. Everytime i see leucine advertised they say it should be taken with a lower protein content food like peanut butter and it will increase protein synthesis even farther than that of the food alone. If the food alone does not contain 30g i understand that the leucine can help, though can it improve protein synthesis when taking in 30g of protein or more? the protein synthesis fact i read on wikipedia, can you shed some light on this?
@ RyFry: I was planning on taking two scoops of Xtend alone before I train fasted on weekends, not with protein powder. I’m trying to follow the Leangains protocol as closely as possible, unless you advice otherwise?
only training i do fasted is morning cardio on the weekends. most people including leangains recommend taking in a small amount of protein before working out. If you read closely enough you’ll see he mentions that he is not a big advocate of fasted training because the difference in serum gh is almost negligible compared to that of training with a bit of whey in your belly.
Got it…I have a ton of whey on hand, hopefully it wasn’t a waste to order the BCAAs if they have a similar effect. And thank you for the quick responses.
no problem man bcaa’s are great its one of the best periworkout supplements. everybody is too hooked on preworkouts and stimulants to get back to basics

if you’re doing that for fat loss, that has worked for me in the past, but i did notice i have to deload more often than when not lifting (basically) fasted
Deloading is a process in regards to CT can be done in the first week or the last week of a training block. It refers to decreasing intensity and volume because the body has been beat up hard for a certain amount of weeks and allowing it to recover at a higher state of fitness. Deloading is also know as peaking. I think you would know what that is if you have done sports. It’s kinda hard to get past the diction CT uses. We’re used to seeing different terms in place of what CT uses.
