Bartl's Back!

Totally understand why Courtney was in that kind of state post-leg matrix. They are brutal. I’ve squatted 400lbs at 170lb BW and struggle to finish 1 matrix. I’ve always meant to try and do a second matrix set at some point, but never actually got around to it. There is a good reason for that!!!

I have no doubt that she will soon be doing two full circuits of that matrix in 3.5 minutes. She’s that dedicated.

I know I haven’t been posting like I normally do, with all sorts of rants and raves about the shit that I go through on a daily basis, but I am focusing on this article this week so I can get that off my mind.

I am still training, still eating. Don’t you worry about that.

As a warning, starting on Monday, everything changes. no longer will I be eating in quantity and no longer will I be training for size.

Monday starts the 10 week training journey towards my next triathlon. So, the diet changes, the training changes and I haven’t decided what I’m doing regarding supplements. Prolly stay with HRX, Flameout, BCAA’s, and Low-Carb Metabolic Drive. I will definitely add BETA-7 and of course both types of Surge. Oh, I will add Spike in there as well. Maybe some other stuff, not quite sure yet.

so, with that in mind, I’m off to keep writing this article about Alwyn.

Hey man, haven’t been by in a while. Can’t wait for the training with AC article. I still do his complexes. I find that as I transition into more endurance-focused training, I don’t like to give up the weights completely but doing hardcore heavy weights is just too much. I’ll add in the complexes as a way to keep in touch with the weights without beating myself up so that I can wake up the next day and ride, swim, run, whatever.

I hear ya there Mike. I’m actually going to do a different style of training for this next race and its going to be predominantely complexes like the one he had me do last weekend.

I’m close to submitting the article, just needs some editing first. make sure to check this week, I think TC will run it!

I’ve been going back through my brain cells and really trying to come up with an objective view of this little three week experiment of trying to gain some mass.

First things first: This wasn’t a very good gauge of what its really like to try and go through a clean bulk. I mean the entire diet portion was one experiment in itself because I didn’t really know what I was doing. So pretty much the entire time I was just tinkering with nutrient portions trying to see what worked and what didn’t. I definitely didn’t like the addition of more carbs thats for sure. It dawned on me, my body does not handle carbs well especially when you get over 50g per day. Which is good to know on a go forward basis because now I know what carbs work and what don’t.

Another thing that sucked about this was that I couldn’t train legs. I mean, who really gets a good clean bulk without doing any sort of leg movements? Well, not me. While it was good to focus on my upper body, I was totally bummed on not being able to train legs. Damn knee.

The lack of cardio was also something that bugged me. While walking is cool and I love swimming, it just wasn’t enough for me. I felt like I wasn’t burning enough energy and I was always feeling a little slothy.

So, with that off my chest, how would I rate this experience? Well, I wouldn’t give it glowing remarks thats for sure but I wouldn’t rule it out as a total failure either. I look at this as a learning experience and I really did learn a lot from it.

But now its time to buckle down and get to the brass taxes of it all. I have race in 11 weeks that I need to start training for and that starts on Monday with HIIT.

I’m not going to go big to start because of my knee (which is feeling much better) so I’m going to start small and work my way back up.

For my diet, I am going carbless. My goal for this race is to weight 185 or under, so that means I need to lose 20 pounds in 11 weeks. Not to hard eh?

The only carbs I will be taking in will come from both sources of SURGE, ie Workout Fuel and Recovery. All the other carbs will come from green veggies which aren’t much so I’m not really going to count those.

Fats will be Flameout and flaxseed as the price of Omega-3 has sky rocketed here in SB.

Proteins will be Grow!, LCMD, chicken and shrimp.

My training will consist of various programs. I am going to start with a four day a week program, with a main focus on pre-fatigue: tri/shoulder/chest, bi’s/upper back/lower back, legs and a strength day. For the strength day, will only consist of a couple movements, going for the as many sets of three as possible in 20 minutes.

I will be doing HIIT 3 days a week, swimming 2-3 days a week and 20-30 mile bike rides on the weekend.

My goal for this race is to beat my friend Eric. Even though tri’s aren’t really about beating someone else, this one is. At least, that is the training mentality that I am taking into it.

Have a great weekend!

I’m moving.

I have been baited into a fat loss challenge.

I will still be posting in the Training Logs forum but look for the title of Bartl vs. Sayjin: A Fat Loss Challenge.

nice

I guess I shouldn’t have been away from my PC for so long this weekend and missed my chance to compete in the official challenge, that doesn’t mean I won’t still hot on you tail. Better get it in gear.
