Bartl vs. Sayjin: A Fat Loss Challenge

I’m kind of tired, a little drunk because I’ve been slamming beers but I am happy. I beat the goal I set for myself by 14 minutes. While my skinny, antelope friends beat my ass (I worked them in the swim btw…), my knee’s didn’t hurt too bad and I finished.

Total time = 4 hrs 16 minutes

More to follow…

In a nut shell, my knee’s hurt like hell but I finished another triathlon. This one is a bit longer than the first, as its a true 1 mile swim, 34 mile bike and 10 mile run.

To start off, there was swell (aka there were waves that should have been surfed but I was busy), which didn’t make the swim very easy. I was using a new pair of goggles and they fogged up real fast. So at the 100 yard turn I had to stop, rinse and reset. Prolly cost me close to a minute there.

Once I got those fuckers on, it was like I was shot out of a cannon. I got into a grove and was having the swim of my life. I was outside in the open water just charging it. When I hit the turn things got dicey. All of a sudden, I find myself in a crowd and one idiot couldn’t swim straight for the life of him. He kicked me in the head twice, which pissed me off, so as I was going past him, I “accidentally” punched him in the back of the head. Hey man, your in a crowd, it happens.

My dad put my swim at about 28 minutes, not my best, but good enough for me.

I had the fastest transition time going onto the bike, right around 3 minutes, which is 2 minutes faster than my first race.

The bike ride was brutal. Tons of big hills that I wasn’t really ready for, so I got it handed to me on the bike. There was one section, after climbing a big ass hill, that on the down side I prolly was averaging somewhere between 43 and 45 mph for a good 4 miles. I was moving.

I started the run ok but at the half mile mark my knee’s went crazy and started to kill me. Good thing in the transition area I put on a Tiger Balm type rub and it started to kick in. My legs felt like they were on fire but it was a good thing because it kept my IT band from getting to tight.

For 4 miles the run is all up hill, then flat, then a 3/4 mile down hill, then you turn around. The uphills sucked ass and hurt like hell. The down hills felt great and I picked up my pace. I still need to really work on my run as its my weakest point by far.

But, that being said, 1:45 (guestimate) to do 10 miles, I can live with that.

So, in a nut shell, 28 minute swim, 2 hour bike, 1:40 run plus transitions, puts me at 4:16.59.

Its been a good ride. Thanks Sayjin! We shall compete again sometime soon…after our knee’s get better.

EDIT -

Official times:
Swim = 31:20
Bike = 1:56:24
Run = 1:44:23

Bartl,

I say this in the most manly way possible - your post was the perfect way to start my day. With all the hard work you put it, I’m glad you didn’t back down from the challenge because of your knee, but instead bent it over and viciously fornicated with it!

Final Official Weight - 180.5

For my carb up on Thursday night, I had the honey bun, half the package of cinnamon rolls (they weren’t as good as I thought they’d be), 1 cinnabon and 2 small bags of potato chips. The hardest part of that meal was taking the 3 tbsp of glycerine - that stuff is sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

I went to a surprise birthday party for me, came home and hopped into my epsom salt bath - which is where the disaster began. I haven’t taken a bath (insert jokes here) since I was about 7 years old, so I naturally assumed that I would fit into the tub, which didnt end up being the case.

Also, by the time I filled the tub up halfway with hot water, my hot water ran out and I began to only get cold water, which pretty much canceled everything out. So if you need a laugh, picture a 6 foot black man contorting his body to try and fit comfortably into a tub and failing miserably.

So I end the tub fiasco after 15min and throw on my hoodie and sweats and get ready for bed. I sit in bed for an hour sweating like a overworked prostitute before abandoning the hoodie/sweat combo.

I put on some Sade’ and enter round 2 of attempted sleep, which was also a complete failure because I was still sweating and couldn’t even because I was so thirsty.

Considering at this rate I wouldnt get to sleep at all and I needed to get some quality sleep otherwise I’d be complete shit at work, I had some (Read: 1 gallon) water, quinched my thirst and went to bed.

My weight before I drank the water was 176.5, so thats as low as I got during this challenge, for what its worth. Here come the pictures though, and I even got a haircut for you wonderful people.

And yes indeed Bartl, it has been a good ride. Now that this is thing is over, I’m going to retreat to my bat cave for a little bit and work on getting myself rehabbed, but once I do, we must once again meet on the field of battle!

By the way, here is what I’ve eaten over the past 3 days:

1 slab of ribs
2 sides of fries
20 pancakes
20 chicken wings
1lb prime rib
1 family size bag of potato chips
1 order of chicken fingers
7 bananas
and I’m currently dusting off a big bag of chicken patties

Now, while it don’t want to make it sound like I didnt enjoy this, I’ve noticed that I dont have as much of a taste for these foods (aside from pancakes) as I did before, which I think is the best part of this whole thing.

After the chicken patties tonight, tomorrow I’m going back to my normal clean eating, but I’ll certainly be including a lot more fruit and oats into my diet.

Why must you lie? Clearly you didn’t eat 20 pancakes. Unless you made them so small they were bite-size.

Yuh huh! 5 on Friday, 5 for breakfast on Saturday, 5 after I got back home on Saturday and 5 this morning. Don’t hate because my appetite for pancakes is larger than your dreams and aspirations for the future =)

Sayjin,

You are a warrior, with a nice haircut.

Matt

Boys, it’s been fun. I’ll be honest, I’m going to miss wasting away my day on your log! Both of you best continue visiting me or I’ll become an inconsolable mess and cry all day, every day.

Bartl, I second your motion on the V-diet. Mine isn’t going to be a match made in heaven either. Let’s chat and see if we can sync our diets. I’d love to have someone on the opposite coast to bitch to and listen to bitching from :slight_smile:

What else is new? =)

I look forward to watching you guys do the V-Diet as I devour bananas and oatmeal and steak and…well, solid food!
