I got into one of these marathon matches last night. It was like a mix between scenes from Bloodsport and Gladiator. Anyways I fought three dudes 6 rounds each - bare knuckle - except I had my wrist taped up. It was a really seedy happening and I probably won’t do it again however I made a very nice piece of change and some nice memories. Anyone here ever get into one of these “tournaments”. I dont think I’ll be able to work out for a few days because of all the deep bruising I have in my forearms. Although I don’t plan to do this again I be will putting a special emphasis on strengthing my hands and forearms.
i did bare knuckle boxing on ice for a couple years if that counts. =p
I’ve never been to one of those, but I know a lot of people who did, and still do for that matter. At the risk of sounding “flower power”, one of my buddies use a homeopathic remedy. It’s called arnica montana. It REALLY speed up recovery for bruises and should put you back on the way to the gym suprisingly faster than you expected. (And by the way, yes, it is legal, both in regard to the law and in contest testing)
On another matter, congratulation for having the gut the enter such a tournament. In today’s softy way, it is tantamount of what you see in the movies, except the blood is no fake. A guy has to have balls not to shy away from that after the first fight.
Here is a photo of me right after my 1st degree black belt test. It’s not as hard on the bruises, but after 5 hours of hard labor, you kinda feel like you’ve been trampled by a whole army plus their marching band, fanfare and all.
In my dumber years I did some southern circuit pit fighting (illegal fighting). That was when I still trained in NHB fighting with a pit fighter who was undefeated in the 60?s-80?s, a total of 12 years of fights and he never lost one/undefeated. Those of you that remember or were around those days now whom I?m talking about. I also trained with the first tuff man champion for 1 year, a real bad ass. I?m presently training in BJJ, Mauy Thai, and ninjitsu (I probably spelled one of those wrong so forgive me).
