look up NASM corrective exercise program and their foundations program. both cost aboiut 600 each. and if you work at bally’s they have their own nasm exam. lengthy process but pay back is worth it… not to mention you will learn a thing or two.

ill look into it, i dont really wanna do it for more than a couple years though but the director at my place was saying how some dude whos got a degree in physical therapee with a full caseload (lack of better word) was making 1500 a week (25 hrs), but i think theres gotta be some bullshit in there.
well dude, im in pretty good shape. as i stated earlier i think thats the only reason i got hired. me and this guy who lifted with some of the guys in the “big dude click” went there the same day when the gym we went to got shut down for a day then we both decided to apply there.
anyway, i already know a guy there who wants me to train him and im sure i can get a couple others. everyone i see there trains people doing plyometrics and fucking bosu bullshit. there isnt one trainer there who can fuck with me. i plan on going for people who are mostly in shape anyway, i dont want unmotivated people. im going to be turning out monsters left and right

jehovasfitness - you were right, he shouldn’t be working as a trainer. I apologize again for implying that you may be bitter.

C’mon now Jehova, heh, what would you expect from a commercial gym anyways?
If I want a real trainer I wouldn’t go to Ballys, Golds, Worlds, or any other chain gym. I’d go to a hole in the ground where a guy who looks like The Hulk would beat me into the ground with rusted iron bars and 45lb plates.
Hey all, Im newly certified with an ACSM and i have an interview with bally total fitness 2morrow so Im really hoping for some information about it. Im curious on how ballys pays their trainer and really what a trainer does (when they’re not training people). Im not a big fan of 24 hour fitness but Ive heard some horror stories about ballys in terms of being more of a salesman and less of a trainer…though, I have heard some good things as well (pay, training, environment)
So could anyone please give me some info about how a ballys trainer “works” so I can have some idea going into my interview. thanks so much!!
by the way sorry i dont know what section to put this in.
The stories you’ve heard are true. They care about selling as many package as possible, not training.
In fact, they will do “in house” training with you to make you into a better salesman. That’s more important to them than your credential.

nah its funny because you have no idea. i wonder how long you’ll last.

nah man i have an idea, i dont expect to get a lot of people like me or other people who come to this site. i know theres not a lot of hardcore people out there and most of em just want to get “in shape” and want to whine every step through.
only thing is theres a decent amount of people at my gym who i think are in good shape and obv. put work in so i want to try and work with people like that, 1 is a guy i know and really is excited about me training him cause all he wants to do is get bigger.
as far as lasting, personal training at bally’s doesnt seem like a career for me, like i said earlier probaly 2 years at the max and even less if something better comes a long of course. i really just want a change of pace right now and im dead fucking tired of retail.
i hear ya man. believe it or not pt was on forbes top 10 jobs. lol.
you’re gonna hear a lot of horror stories, and you’ll lose some respect for physical therapist and even doctors. and then you’re gonna wanna become a doctor. which isnt a bad thing.

why would you lose respect for physical therapists or doctors? They’re good at what they do, but like any profession there are those that may not be the best.
Doctors aren’t taught exercise and nutrition, so why hold them to a higher standard in those regards, it’s not their fault.
As for physical therapists, I’d like to see anyone on these forums step to the plate knowledge wise when it comes to Gray Cook or even Gary Gray, both physical therapists who have had a huge impact on the fitness industry.

not trying to speak for him but i think probaly because if you try training a doctor or someone they will take a holier-than-thou attitude towards you and say well this movement does that and this is harmful to this blah blah. like ok doggy, go train yourself then.
a female client of mine had pain somewhere in her shoulder before she started training with me. she went to the doctors and paid $500 for him to tell her that it’s nothing and wrote her a prescription for pain. the pain continued for another couple of months and she came to me. i stretched her out and figured out it was here rotator cuff. i gave her myofascial release and rotation exercises and she was fine in two weeks. i told her that ill only take $300, unlike the doctor. lol.
and you’re right jehova, doctors aren’t required to know exercise science or nutrition, but if they don’t know something, they should realize that and forward the patient to a specialty doctor.

Do you feel that you are even remotely skilled or knowledgeable at all to “lose respect” for those health care practitioners?
Sure, I know some MDs and PTs (physical therapists) that are not the best at what they do, but I goddamn guarantee you that anyone of them is better with the human body than you.
