I’m all for one being successful, but it is people like 781 that give us trainers a bad name, and also who aren’t in this business for the right reasons.
905- please check into 781’s post history and maybe you’ll sing a different tune, if not, then I don’t know what to say

From my experience managing gyms I wouldn’t rule out 781 just yet because of what he’s said. While I don’t see eye to eye with him on a lot of stuff, I’m not 100% sure that he wouldn’t be an effective trainer for certain clients that more knowledgable trainers would find draining. He doesn’t appear to have any problem with talking and he handles hostility fairly well - two things that appear to be lacking in a number of the commercial gym trainers I’ve seen. And we’re talking about Bally’s here not a Poliquin or EC performance center so his knowledge doesn’t have to be superior.
You can’t teach attitude but you can teach knowledge.
BUT I haven’t made a complete mental record of everything he as said so if he has made any spontaneous denigrative comments I am probably wrong - and any manager would uncover any hateful nature very quickly so he won’t last.
FWIW - your comment that you hope he doesn’t get the job does more to harm the reputation / image of trainers than 781’s politics and postings because IMO you’re hoping he never gets the chance to do what he want to do.
Edit - removed a line about your state of mind that wasn’t founded.

I’m not bitter, not sure how you can judge me, when you don’t know the complete situation.
781 is young, and has some growing up to do. He may have potential, but from some of his posts on this site, he’s not ready mentally.
Glad you’ve managed some gyms, so I do respect your opinion a little more, but as you admit you don’t know the whole situation.

Might want to do some reading.
I edited out the bitter comment right after I posted it, I had no right to say that. I apologize.
You are correct, I don’t know his history. But he’s young and, God willing, he’ll be motivated to keep learning because of the ripping he gets and find his way.
Apology accepted. I think sometimes I do hold those wanting to be trainers or are trainers to a very high standard. I just expect excellence in this field, as a PT and as a manager

Thats about every 3rd or 4th post with this guy.
I have noticed that in the politics and filler content threads more than the body building content threads. At worst he doesn’t have much to offer but I don’t think it’s even that bad.

Funny, how 905 is an area code up here in the Toronto land.

im supposed to be getting hired there soon, i just have to sign some more paperwork. youll probaly get paid better than me because im not certified and i know ACSM is the best PT certification you can get. they just told me i have 90 to get certified, i think its because its obvious i workout because when i went a year ago the same guy who im going through now told me they have people who work w/o certification but its people who have played sports their whole lives blahblah idk, and now that im bigger it was way easier.
im going in there today to hopefully get this shit done im gonna ask ab out pay too…definately ask when you go in, cause i made the mistake of not asking.
I hope they don’t hire you. Then again, it’s Ballys, so they probably will.
What an unusual comment from a personal trainer. You’re hoping that someone not be successful. Hopefully you are able to shield your clients from this piss poor attitude.
cool so by what ive said in regards to talking about a few things unrelated to training in specific you can gauge exactly how ill engage a client? interesting.
anyway, i am pretty much hired i signed all the final paperwork today and it just needs to be processed before i start. obviously the director must see something in me since theyre only hiriing a new trainer because one is leaving and they went with me, a kid with no formal training or certification at all to take up the spot.
what he told me was that when you do nothing you dont get paid, prospecting is 8 so is calling, first sessions are 10 and actual sessions are 12 then once you get certification it goes up to like 18 or something, im getting the actual sheet of all the info once i get official.

Well, I do wish you luck, and hope that you can help some people.
That being said, man Bally’s is a rip with paying trainers, good grief.
yeah they do kind of suck with the pay. im making 8.75 an hr right now at a job where i dont do shit anyway and im wondering like should i stay here but if i can get enough clients ill be making bank. so ill try it out and if it doesnt work ill hopefully go back to my old job but idk cause im not sure if they like me all too much over there.

C’mon now Jehova, heh, what would you expect from a commercial gym anyways?
If I want a real trainer I wouldn’t go to Ballys, Golds, Worlds, or any other chain gym. I’d go to a hole in the ground where a guy who looks like The Hulk would beat me into the ground with rusted iron bars and 45lb plates.
the best ones are when you walk in,its dark and smells like a combo of sweat, mold and tiger balm
and is that rust on the bars or blood
besides isnt the point to being a trainer is to help people and not so much the money anyways?
I mean I work on cars how I see it is I get paid for something I would gladly do for free the rest of my life.
thought being a trainer was the same for some people

If the person is in the business for the right reasons then yes.
That being said, like anything else, it’s a profession and one deserves to be compensated for their time.
It takes a lot of time, money and effort to be a great trainer, gotta pay the bills somehow.
People become doctors to help people as well, but they get paid well for it, why should trainers be any different? (not saying we should get paid in line with doctors)
Yeah I’d like to be a trainer just to help someone out. Hell if I ever get to where I want to be and some kid comes to me and wants the same, I’d be happy to help.
If I wasn’t so broke I’d hunt down the biggest badest bastard in the scariest gym down and pay him to help me out…but I’m broke. Besides, finding your own is half the fun. The frustration you’ll be able to laugh at later.
I go to school at UT(TN) and there’s this place on Kingston Pike called “The Gym”. Every time I pass it I try to get a good look at the building.
From what I can tell it looks like a giant garage. It’s a good size where it could hold enough equipment and have a nice number of people.
It would be nice if it were one of those “hardcore” gyms I always hear about. I’d gladly pay to go to it and workout along side of people who were there for the same reason as me then the fucking idiots at my rec center here at campus. I’d definitely benefit from it and could get some good advice if it’s what I imagine.
…Think I’ll call them up tomorrow and see what it’s about.

its more like 60 a session if you have the right certs
yeah if you have a degree in the field you get paid bank i guess.
and yeah im obviously doing this because its what i want to do but 8.00/hr when youre not training and getting paid nada when you arent doign something is fuckin bogus dude. i dont think ill be making a career out of this, just something to do for a little while, change of pace from my current job too.
