I view this the same way I view identity politics, once you start, there is a near infinite number of ways that you could split the country. It would be an absolute nightmare. Please wait until I’m dead to try it.
Violence, subpar education, indecency.
Attacker wasn’t expelled if I recall correctly.
Get a load of this below.
Our cities?
My old school that degraded.
School in my town, a so-called “nice town,” that my children are zoned for.
I can be here all day and night with these pathetic issues.
We’re 6th per capita, which isn’t great. How much of that is driven by crimes that are illegal here, but not elsewhere I wonder. I think the answer is to decriminalize some things first.
As far as violence goes, it’s not like separating fixes the issue. I guess now it just happens in a neighboring country so it can be ignored? I avoid Baltimore like it’s the plague that wouldn’t change if it was the People’s Republic of Baltimore as opposed to being part of Maryland.
The only real value separating brings is self governance, which is a big deal, but it doesn’t address issues like education or violence. At least, I don’t see how and now you have borders to defend, in some cases, on all sides plus foreign powers.
There are upsides to separating, but, beside the difficulty, there are some serious downsides too.
Then what does and why can’t it? People made this so. And I don’t want to unite with such people.
Whether it is inflated by such things that should be criminalized or not, either way this speaks volumes. And America is a very violent country.
City or County?
United States is so far behind other major countries in Math and Science we will become irrelevant in innovation in less than a generation I believe.
Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, which sponsors the PISA initiative, the U.S. ranked 30th in math and 19th in science
U.S. academic achievement lags that of many other countries | Pew Research Center
30th and 19th - Places like Vietnam, Malta, Slovenia, and Poland are ahead of the US. This is unacceptable with the amount of money the US has.
Notice when the outrageous increase started. Did this just happen out of nowhere? Like poof, the increase in lawbreakers came out of nowhere?
This doesn’t really make sense, to me. It would be a nightmare to split up, but it’s not to force everyone together?
Crack was invented
I figured this would be mentioned, along with “war on drugs”, and I’m not saying that sarcastically. I almost put it as an “inb4”.
I don’t believe it was as simple as that.
What do you think it was?
For better or for worse, we are already together. Had the US developed separately maybe the outcome would have been better, but we’re so intermingled now that separation at this point is impossible. That’s how I see it anyway.
For example, we have 3,700 nukes. Who gets them?
City. County is okay generally.
There are a lot of ways we could improve education, but that’s a whole other thread really. Personally, I think our entire concept of public education needs to burnt down and rebuilt from the ground up. I feel the same about healthcare and health insurance as well.
And what did the 80% do to end slavery? They made up most of those who died to protect the interests of the 20%. I mean, they could have voted to end slavery and avoided war, or simply ended slavery just to end it.
I’m not saying the US isn’t violent; however, statistics are easy to manipulate to prove a point. For example, when comparing violent crimes, is the definition of what a violent crime is applied the same across the board? You would need to control for these variants.
I remember years ago there was a thread on violent crime comparing the US to Europe and when we dug into the data a litte bit we found several crimes counted as violent in the US were not being counted in Europe the same way. I believe it was burglary, but might be misremembering.
There are a number of other factors in the US to consider as well.
Our schools get judged by the worst. There are still schools where kids learn and are high achievers. The real problem is the woke crowd’s desire to bring those students and schools down in the name of equity.
Primarily the breakdown of social institutions that kept anti-social behavior in check and people on the fringes more towards the center.
