Haven’t deadlifted in 2 weeks so not surprising. Took the rest of the session easy. Thankfully I slept much better last night to the point where I slept in later than I wanted.
Standing ab wheel progression 6,7,6,7 (getting close to one full ROM standing rep)
100 band pull aparts
50 dips
8 hours of sleep felt amazing even though benching sucked.
On the bright side I booked a week’s vacation, leaving in a month… without telling my advisor yet. But it should be fine. I have not taken any time off (worked on several holidays) let alone left the area since December 2019. Thanks to that in addition to buying tickets for shows again, my sanity is slowly returning. I forgot how it felt to look forward to things. I also very nearly bought a dirt cheap round-trip to Germany for later this year but will probably hold off…
For sure! There are almost irresistable deals on round-trip flights to Munich or Zürich right now, but I think I rather wait since I wouldn’t choose either of those places for my first time in a German-speaking country.
I adore 20th century history, so Berlin would be more up my alley. I’d even be more keen to visit Hamburg over Munich. I’d really be happy with almost anywhere since I’ve waited so long to go to Germany, but my goal is to use zero English there, so I don’t want to deal with Swiss German on my first go.
Yeah no one can deal with Swiss German. Wouldn’t help you anymore to be a native German speaker. Going for ‘high German’ regions (high German = Hochdeutsch = well… highest form of German, basically the only one without any dialect to it. Probably what a foreigner would learn if he was interested in German) might be the way to go to accomodate your goal.
Hamburg isn’t too far from me and I have some decent connections there if you need any help.
I honestly don’t know anyone who liked Berlin and isn’t a hipster/ party person, haha.
Fortunately I’ve been able to converse with people from several regions of Germany without much issue. Though it might happen anyway, I’d like to avoid being recognized as an American and people defaulting to English with me. I reckon this is more likely in Munich?
I’m not a nightlife person at all, hahaha. Berlin’s history and art museums are enticing. I also like bigger cities.
Probably, yeah. Although I would imagine the experience might be similar in Berlin, just because the city is very international. Just say you want to speak German if it comes up.
Big cities in general won’t be much of a problem with communication. Dialects are less strong there. Like Munich for example has a pretty weak/ accomodated Bavarian accent. Go a little deeper into the country side and you’ll need a translator, even as a native German (although those people generally are able to speak high German, they just chose not to).
I had some conversation with Bavarians and Austrians in which I wasn’t able to inderstand the other person. With Swiss German you might as well speak Italian to me, haha.
Whoa! A widowmaker front squat at 50+lb isn’t trivial! I think when I started my weekly FS widowmakers I used the bar or 55. And a goblet is harder than that, considering grip. Great job.
I don’t think high rep goblets or front squats are too difficult so long as one has decent upper back strength. Though I’ve never done widowmakers with barbell front squats, so you’re better able to comment on that. Have you ever tried BBB front squats?
I decided once I finish Coffinworm to prioritize front squats again. I honestly miss doing them, as wicked as that sounds.
