Bagsy's Training Log

Killer view for a workout!

Got any vids of pull-ups? I scrolled through the whole log but may have missed them.

Awesome work dude, time to change the title of your log I think. (Certainly anything but WEAK)

Agree with @kleinhound those presses were anything but weak. Great grind on that last rep.

@Bagsy mental strength is underrated and you have a lot of it

@wanna_be It’s an awesome view for sure. I might have a clip buried in one of the videos I uploaded but can try again this week

@kleinhound @simo74 @anna_5588 Ha, I don’t think I’m mentally stronger than any other person on this forum. I probably can’t even squat 150 pounds right now, so I still think I’m pathetically weak physically. But thank you for the words

Even though it’s a bit pricy, I might buy this Spud belt squat belt to strengthen my legs. I already have a landmine attachment and can elevate it. I won’t be able to go to a gym for goblet squats, hack squat, etc. Or maybe this is a waste of money, and I should just focus on squatting better

I love spending money but there’s a decent chance hip belt squats will still be relatively hip dominant lol. Depending on where u r you might be able to sell it easy considering it’s brand name stuff.

Dang, you strong. Those deads looked like you have full command.

@guineapig It looks like JTS has success using the hip belt squat with their athletes to improve quad strength, according to one of the videos you link as well as some others – more so than front or high bar squats. I personally hate spending money and am terribly frugal, but I would buy if it would help.

@Cyrrex I don’t think strong, but deadlifts do come more naturally to me than another lift that shall not be named again hahaha

Nice job. I started with a pull up bar in my doorway too

Those are some good pull ups. I’ll quote Dan John below:

Looks like you’re knocking Dan John’s standards out the park.

Ha, glad I’ve earned Dan John’s approval. I’ve read a little bit of his stuff but never seen that quotation before. I’m still DYEL though

What is your actual goal, by the way? I’m sure its listed above somewhere, but I’m very lazy

Just general strength and conditioning with greater emphasis on the former since that’s always been the bigger issue for me.

Ok, and feel free to blow these questions off, what does increased strength and conditioning look like for you? What’s “strong enough” or “conditioned enough”? What will you be able to do when you’ve got there?

At that point I would probably be around my current BW but be able to deadlift 2+ plates for reps, squat 200 pounds, press 100 pounds, do heavy weighted pullups and dips (25+ pounds added), etc. I’d maybe think about competing in some strength sport at that point but dunno. So, I suppose maximizing my relative strength ratio is critical to me. I still feel like a novice here, so I err toward softer goals for now.

As for conditioning, it’s already pretty decent as I’ve had so many conditioning targets in former athletic pursuits… But continuing to decrease my 100 cal assault bike time or hill sprint capacity per session are ways to monitor improvement. I’d like to be more explosive, but I honestly think increasing that strength ratio will benefit me significantly more than practicing coordination or a specific test.

I don’t think this is necessary; just do front squats. Folks at JTS are looking for ways to further optimize their (probably) already optimized training.

Sounds unnecessary if you’re looking for a general strength and conditioning focus.

Just front squat for reps of 10+!
