I’ll admit I skipped jumps because of downpour outside. Got 7 reps on my first 2 sets of pull ups. I’m having an easier time than when I was in the latter half of weight loss, which is encouraging. I prefer RDLs but decided to try good mornings because why not.
Next week I get to pull 200 for reps, which is a bit scary.
@dagill2 Not at all. I’m glad I joined the challenge though
@omats I use overhand grip and chalk. I have a women’s bar, so that makes deadlifting a bit easier. I use hook grip on RDLs though. I’ve never tried a belt or mixed grip in my life. Yes, I probably could pull a tiny bit more if I tried these, especially the belt. But if I can get an equally good training effect beltless, which at my strength levels I imagine is case, then it isn’t a huge deal to me and I’ll be even better if/when I eventually get a belt. Plus I don’t make much money and am terribly frugal.
@aldebaran Back is about the only thing I have going for me. But hope to change that during the challenge
Do you find grip a limiting factor? I’m genuinely suprised by this. I’ve always considered grip to be a relative strength for me, and yet I pull considerably more mixed grip than double overhand.
I find a belt to have minimal impact on my deadlift weights. I feel safer, but more uncomfortable and no stronger. As always, YMMV
No, but I think there might be issues if I were using a standard men’s barbell.
It seems like most people find a belt more beneficial for squats, so I could believe that. I have no clue personally.
Just trying to look better and be stronger. I think I will see a bigger difference the longer I keep gaining weight. Maybe I’ll try to lose some of the pounds before the end of the challenge. I’m almost halfway done with JM but haven’t started thinking about what to do after that, mostly because I want to see if good things happen from it first.
I’d take straps over mixed any day as a won’t compete ever person. Double overhand for everything leading up until grip becomes a concern and then straps.
Where do you ride your belt? Across abdomen or midtorso? Sounds like if you aren’t getting anything out of it you aren’t using it to either enhance your brace or make up for the weakest part of your kinetic chain.
Well perhaps but you have littler hands so it’s the same! You should probably try someday with hook or straps, and a mix of this and overhand. Personally all my work sets are hook grip. But I have a shitty grip since the surgeries. On RDL though… I once strained my thumb because I was doing 505 tempo RDLs with the hook. I use straps for most of them now ahah.
Yeah same… Once again i have a shitty grip but I think the best I ever pull on a good day (grip is the thing the most prone to central fatigue) was 140. But usually even at 120 I can feel the lift, and bar path less stable! Which is very far from my max…
