Oh no! The very last thing you needed. But hugs and sympathies to you.
My therapist once asked me how I made it through all that life had to offer.
I told him- Humor. Tough times can make for some good laughs. Later. Sometimes much much later. A loooong time…

It’s been inconvenient to say the least. At least I can still have surgery this month unless some other problem emerges, which cannot be ruled out. Scheduled for the 25th. The scheduler thought I could stick to the 10th based on when my symptoms started, but the problem is that I haven’t had my pre-op appointment yet, which should be at least a week prior to the procedure. It was supposed to be this morning; obviously that didn’t happen. I’m a little nervous because I decided a few days ago to stop taking the BC I was prescribed, and I think it’s not unlikely that my pain will return between now and the 25th. It’s hard though because I’m tired of losing a lot of hair (still am) and dissociating almost every day. Surprisingly, I’ve also decided to try an IUD because it would be convenient to have it placed while I’m unconscious. This may give me even more problems, but I’m willing to at least try it.
I’m feeling shitty, but I think the symptoms peaked late yesterday afternoon/evening, and I expect to notice an improvement tomorrow. In the meantime, I’m supposed to be more or less moved into my new apartment at this point, but I can’t sit in the car with my friend who is helping me move. Although I’m grateful for them being willing to do things contact-free for now, it’s taking way more time than expected. I have to load the vehicle and then walk to public transit, ride to the other neighborhood, and walk to the complex, which takes about 50 minutes one way. Plus I don’t feel like doing anything but laying in bed, so it’s been tough. So, it’s really ambitious to think I can do more than one “trip” each day. I think we might reach a point where I can start spending the night over there starting tomorrow, and I can deal with everything else to be discarded in my current place after I test negative. It’s really nice, so I’m looking forward to it. I’m pretty determined because then my friend will be out of town from Thursday until Sunday.
I really miss training, but I have no energy to even ride my bike to the apartment building (which could probably be faster than walking + transit). Hoping I can get back into things and start using my apartment’s gym by early next week. Want to train hard before I’m out of commission for a bit.
I haven’t worked in probably over two weeks now, so my life feels pretty wonky.
Congrats on the new place! That is exciting! I hope you’re feeling better and getting all settled in. ![]()
Thank you! It’s been A Lot, but I’ve managed to start spending the night here since Wednesday, and I’m basically not sick anymore. It’s a really nice apartment, so I feel quite comfortable and think I made the right choice despite the cost.

Started checking out the apartment gym since starting to feel better. I’ve encountered only one person for a few minutes, so I have a feeling that it’s not a popular amenity. Great because it’s decently equipped! Honestly makes me more enthusiastic about lifting again.
So far everything is going okay, just trying to unpack and set up everything in my new place. Just like the first time I had it, COVID was pretty short but very poorly timed. Such is life. I was practically at my wit’s end on Wednesday with the whole moving situation, but it worked out. Also found out on that day that I lost $2k that I spent on a security deposit and one month’s rent at the apartment that I refused.
It is what it is.
Only other thing is extreme shoulder pain from my new bed setup, which requires some getting used to and/or may be too firm for me. Right shoulder is bruised and has been in pain since yesterday morning.
Ultimately, it feels so good to be training again after about 10 days without it.
Congrats on the new place! I hope it’s everything you want it to be.
Ah, I knew that you had a home gym but not that you already had adjustable KBs.
I also have adjustable KBs from Titan- the 12kg to 32kg one. I don’t like it one bit. The machining seems to suck cause sometimes they ‘stick’ and refuse to separate after I unscrew the bottom often. The REP fitness one is very easy to change loads and I love how simple it is.
Hopefully the apartment gym gives you what you need!
I have the same one and think I have the same problem that you describe. It’s somewhat tricky to load and unload, so I don’t feel inclined to do so. I honestly could probably sell it because the apartment gym is so well equipped, but with my luck there will be another pandemic soon, so I’m holding onto it for the meantime.

I’m still a bit stressed out about all the things I have to deal with at my old apartment. I’m settling into somewhat of a routine here though and enjoying the gym. I’m working remotely most of the week until my surgery date, so I’m going to take as much advantage of it as I can. I also discovered that deadlifting isn’t allowed, which isn’t surprising. I think I’ll survive nine months without deadlifting from the floor though. I can just stick to RDLs.
In terms of COVID, I’m almost completely back to my normal self. At least I have some immunity for a while considering I probably won’t be allowed to get a booster this fall. I’ve still been feeling kind of meh, and maybe it is just about correcting nutritional deficiencies from that BC pill. But I also started experimenting with a bit of iodine supplementation because my recent thyroid results aren’t the greatest and I’ve been experiencing some explicit hypo symptoms lately. Of course the symptoms could be due to a number of things, but I notice some positive results after taking the iodine, so I’ll see how things go.

Quick workout after pre-surgical appointment. Nothing exciting, but I got some bloodwork for free, yay. Turns out my hemoglobin still likes to hang out in the 12s. It’s so funny that I’m still borderline anemic even though I haven’t menstruated in four months. Surgery is in two weeks ![]()
I meant to do some cardio today as well but felt really tired after this session and decided to spend more time writing my thesis instead. I think tomorrow I’m going to give the elliptical in my apartment gym a go. My stupid toe still doesn’t want to fully heal, and while I think biking is a relatively “safe” choice, hard workouts can still trigger it sometimes (even though I think a lot of recent walking is the culprit here). I hate being antsy and trying to lose weight but feeling like I can’t do much of anything because of my toe. I think I need to give it a good 3-4 weeks of practically no walking for it to hopefully be normal again.
On another note, I managed to get a referral to an endocrinologist. I don’t think I’ll be able to convince anyone to treat me, though I will say I think the iodine I took this week helped. I stopped because I know playing with iodine is kind of risky, and I honestly experienced some temporary hyperthyroid-like symptoms. Let’s see.

Went 7.7 miles on the elliptical in 55 mins.
I never thought I’d seriously use an elliptical, but this was a great way to elevate my HR (made it to the 160s a few times) without aggravating my toe.
They are a surprisingly great injured runner’s tool.

Some adductor work on cable machine
I hate back squatting. Why i decided to do that today is beyond me. Obviously I have become weaker, but my anatomy and back squats just do not fit. Going to stick to front squats or some sort of lunge.
I’m so glad you stopped. I was going to make sure you talked to your doctor about it before you started. I’ve seen a lot of not so great things happen to folks who messed around with it, and I definitely didn’t want you to be one of them!! ![]()
Haha, no worries, it was more of an experiment to see if my thyroid might be the culprit for some of my symptoms. It is interesting that some of my symptoms were alleviated upon taking it. I am very sensitive to medications and supplements, so that is another reason I stopped after starting to feel hyperthyroid. I didn’t take any serious amounts though. I have read about people taking milligrams of iodine, and that seems pretty crazy to me.
While you’re here though, I am a little curious. I don’t know how intimately aware you are of your clients’ thyroid levels, and I understand you’re not an endo, but if one of your clients were very borderline hypo, would you encourage them to seek treatment? Assuming no major nutritional deficiencies that may be contributing.
Happy to share more details if it would be valuable. This might seem something out of the blue in my log, but I have suspected over the past few years that my thyroid function is declining a bit.
I would definitely encourage them to talk to their doctor or see an Endo, especially if they were always feeling tired, and or showing/dealing with other low hypo symptoms. I’m glad you’re going to see an Endo and I would ask about it for sure if they don’t give you anything.
Got it. I still haven’t scheduled it yet, but let’s see. I’m a little afraid I won’t be taken seriously at all, though I guess I can always look for other providers. Ultimately I’m really curious as to how I would feel by taking just the lowest dose of T3 and T4. Thanks for the response!
