Probably his best training book, in my opinion.

Sleep was pretty bad, dragged myself through this. Been waking up between 5 and 6 AM most mornings and definitely couldn’t go back to sleep if I tried. Also, as someone who always receives comments on how clear her skin is, I’m starting to get some breakouts from what I presume is stress. I’ve lost a little over 5 pounds the past 4-5ish weeks. Will refeed a little today and lift one more time this week before loosening up on my nutrition a bit this weekend.

I take it from this post that you are dieting?

Indeed, only temporary. I’d be a bit concerned if I had these symptoms otherwise!

Max reps on bench in 15 minutes
85x39 reps SS band pull aparts (100 total)

Deficit RDLs 135x7, 125x2x7

51 lateral raises
4x5 standing ab wheel progression

Short and sweet. I’m already sore from the RDLs. Felt much better today! Ate much more yesterday, was able to sleep, and woke up leaner. So clearly I needed that. I’ll get back to lifting again later next week. Reading more and more of Dan’s work, and I’m actually thinking of trying his Easy Strength method for a brief interim while I finish my weight loss. Then go back to 5/3/1.

Dan’s new book “Attempts” includes an approach to do exactly this: Easy strength for fat loss. Full disclosure: I haven’t read it.

My library only has one of his books, sadly. I’ve been reading a lot on this from his blog posts and articles. Have you done Easy Strength before?

Nope, sorry. That’s far too sensible a program for me. I also haven’t read Attempts or the original Easy Strength, I just know it’s in there because he seemed quite excited about it in some of his recent podcasts.

That’s okay, still appreciate your comments!

It seems like there are several versions of Easy Strength floating around, so still combing through things. It would definitely be a different way for me to train, but hey, maybe I could squeeze out some strength gains just by simple, high-frequency skill practice like this.

@dagill2 Don’t know if you’ve seen this

I think my main issue is wanting to incorporate both the squat and deadlift. It seems like plenty of people get good results using both movements, but Dan and others don’t think pushing both lifts simultaneously works here.

I like to think my numbers aren’t so high and that it won’t be an issue. In reality, I guess all I have to do is try it out and see what happens

I’m thinking of

  1. Deadlift
  2. Squat
  3. Weighted chin up
  4. Press or weighted dip
  5. Barbell suitcase carry or waiter walk? Maybe just an ab wheel progression since the other movements are quite intense.

I don’t have much equipment, so can’t do swings or farmer’s walks like some versions suggest.

I absolutely have no experience or working knowledge of Easy Strength so I can’t comment either way. Consider asking Dan John directly for advice via his podcast (link on every youtube episode), or getting your hands on the two books (Easy Strength with Pavel and Attempts).

Dumbell handles? Or just pick up a plate in each hand?

Sorry, maybe it seemed like me asking for advice. Just writing and thinking through things to myself in that latter part. Wasn’t sure if you were interested in the easy strength and fat loss advice, so that’s why I linked the post to you. I’m starting to get a good grasp from his posts and podcasts, thanks.

No worries. I’ve never followed an Easy Strength log, so I’m really interested to see it in action.

Not a lifting update, but started reading Never Let Go on Wednesday evening and finished this morning. Great writing, will have to see if another library in my area has any of Dan’s other books.

Moved all of my stuff into my new apartment last night. Thankful that I lift and am in reasonably good shape, but definitely still exhausting. We treated ourselves with mediterranean food afterwards:

Found out that I now live < a mile from a track with pullup bars, a dip station, and more. I reckon this would be an awesome place to try WaLRUS training or some of the dreadful Litvinov workouts I recently read about. I need to get stronger on BW movements, but I think investing in a weight vest wouldn’t be a terrible idea. But I also live on a quiet little straight drive without many cars, so I also think about buying a sled. Unfortunate that most companies probably won’t having Black Friday deals this year.

So this morning couldn’t resist heading there for an easy walk. Did 4x5 pullups and 4x8 dips.

Not the leanest I’ve ever been, but I like to think my back sorta looks like I lift???

Yah, the separation between delts and traps is a dead giveaway, even when you’re wearing a t-shirt.

It does, good work
