Happy Birthday!
Happy belated birthday.
Not feeling well and crushing the weights then going for a casual half-marathon in two hours. Back to usual Bagsy’s log indeed!

Ugh, I was going to at least lift today, but somehow I’ve gotten worse. I haven’t had diarrhea like this in ages. Looks like it’s a day off besides walking to and from the grocery store to stock up on bland things and electrolytes. Not a great start to the year.
Hope you feel better soon.
Yeah the casual half-marathon while sick got me too.
Hang in there, you always do. When will you be done with this thesis?
(That’s probably a bad question to ask lol)
REST!! And if it makes you feel any better, I started the year on the “sick list” too. I’m finally just getting back at it a little and there were no half-marathons or anything else happening while I was down. lol
I hope you feel better soon!!!

I started feeling better yesterday. Sunday morning was the absolute worst. Running is the fastest way for me to get to and from work, so I’m always glad when it works out. Not the strongest lifts, but that’s what happens when you’re lighter, took a deload, and then had a stomach virus.
Also, I didn’t expect this, but I am interested in getting a nice Garmin smartwatch, so I am researching now and may purchase one soon ![]()
Oof, I’m hoping by December. It could very well be early 2025 though. Who knows. I have an animal study that finally kicked off about a month ago, so I at least feel like I am making decent progress right now.
That can be a very triggering question for someone in the fifth year of a PhD program! But as eager as I am to be done, I don’t mind. ![]()
Thanks for checking in! I’m glad that I caught up on the wild stories in your log.

@heretolog Here are some photos from my hike. Sometimes I like to apply goofy vintage filters ![]()
Did you give the deer a name?
Awesome photos! Looks like a great trip.
Beautiful, looks like you got a really nice day!
Beautiful trail!
Lunch?
Thanks! The hike was perfect. The weather and colors were stunning. Plus I heard so many foreign languages on the trail. I realize Mt. Rainier is touristy, but I hadn’t expected that. I even managed to surprise two younger German women with my German when I asked if they wanted photos of them together. ![]()
What wasn’t perfect was landing in Seattle on little to no sleep after pulling an all-nighter and flying early in the morning, driving a rental car from the airport to Eatonville, driving to Mt. Rainier, hiking on almost no calories, and then driving back to my accommodation in the darkness. It was actually one of the most dangerous things I’ve ever done!

Onto even more dangerous things I’ve done: The temperature plummeted dramatically today, and I thought I could do a long run today before the winter weather rolls in. Well, I did, but I was poorly dressed for the occasion and think I almost got frostbite around mile 12. I think I’ll have to use a treadmill if I want to run again before Wednesday. The wind chill is supposed to reach -30 soon. ![]()
So, my phone was pretty unwieldy to control with nearly frozen hands. Good thing I ordered a Garmin watch earlier today! I’m really excited to no longer have to carry my phone in my hand while running and to use the watch for hiking and travel as well.

10-mile run in 1:29:20
Given my coldbloodedness and that the real-feel temp was not bad at all, I decided to suck it up, bundle up, and head outside this afternoon after I got home from meeting my best friend’s friend who is visiting from Serbia
honestly, I layered so much and the wind died down enough that the weather conditions were much better than yesterday. I planned to run only six miles but felt so good that I kept going! I even had to take my gloves off at some point because I got so toasty. Plus I managed to beat the snow that is already sticking. Will probably lift tomorrow.
Wow, I am writing so much. Maybe I missed logging.
And logging missed you! As well as your loyal readership ![]()
