Wild view! Where was that taken?

Somewhere out west in the USA :cowboy_hat_face: I attended a conference that is often held at that location and don’t want to reveal too much info about myself.

I don’t remember the last time I’ve weighed myself, so this could be a tad lighter than 50% BW. Not sure. Whatever, it wasn’t very difficult, so I reckon I could still do this with a few more kilos.

Four-mile run in 33:45

I spent the first half or so acclimating to the Altras, but I really like them. I might buy another pair after I break them in a bit more.

13.1-mile run in 1:55:12

I ran a half-marathon for the first time in, like, seven years (that makes me feel old)! The weather is a bit cooler here for the first time in months, so I took advantage of that and ran a couple of extra miles. It felt pretty easy overall actually. That time doesn’t count a couple of breaks to drink water, consume an energy gel (for the first time ever), and pick up something from Walgreens. These long runs turn out to be pretty productive for me.

Yes! Happy to hear this. Once I went zero drops, I never went back. Feels so natural. Topos are also a great option if you want more variety.

I am getting jealous of these long runs, they can be very soothing. Nice time, as always.

It’s remarkable how only a few millimeters can make such a difference. Thankfully, I think the transition won’t be very difficult for me because I wear Bedrock sandals fairly often and would live in them in summer if I didn’t have to wear closed toe shoes for work.

I was considering buying a pair of Topos but ended up with the Altras. Topos are definitely still on my radar though, especially because I’ve read that the durability of Altras is much to be desired. Have you owned a lot of Altras and have thoughts on that? I must admit that I’m a little afraid of mine falling apart in a few months.

Exactly! Can listen to so many podcasts or audiobooks, which is great. Or to ambient music and think about life. Very meditative. I’m excited for fall weather!

I am on my 7th pair of Altras. On average, I get a little over one year out of them. I run them until the tread is basically gone or fail in some other way. They lose padding long before that. I do run less than you, but I also wear them as daily shoes on top of running.
So no, they do not last a very long time. I have had better luck with the trail shoes vs. road. I bought my current pair of Lone Peak 5s in July 2022, and they are still going strong. They are the ones I did the Spartan training in and the race as well.

Me too! It is an amazing time of year. Though I have been loving not having to wear a coat everyday. Yay seasons that aren’t summer!

That really isn’t too bad considering that I rotate through a couple pairs of running shoes and hardly ever wear them in everyday life. Thank you for the insights! This applies to other types products as well, but it is sometimes hard to determine how useful one person’s online review is over another’s. A lot of people don’t describe how they train even slightly.

I’ve read nothing but good things about those! The older models, at least. In any case, I might buy another pair soon because they’re so cheap on Sierra.

Well I may have to snag me another pair. I always get the previous model. So much cheaper. I also have zero preference on color, and usually the funky colors are even less.

Pull-ups 7,5,4,4,4,3,3,3,3 (three sets normal grip + three sets close-grip + three sets wide-grip; 60s rest)

At the track:
1600m in 6:32
800m in 3:20
400m in 1:28

The mile time today is definitely my best since my long distance running days and was only 11 seconds slower than the fastest mile I ever ran… about seven years ago if I recall correctly. Plus, I was sleep-deprived this morning and had to do this in 90% humidity and temps that felt like 90+, whereas my fastest mile long ago (again, I feel old) was in much better conditions.

Only bad thing was that I intended to do mile repeats at the track, but I was toast after that first mile. I inadvertently turned the mile into a time trial, and the weather conditions didn’t help. I should not run so fast next time  Next week I hope to take a break from track workouts and do a hard hill workout like the one I did last month. Weather didn’t cooperate today.

Six-mile run in 52:22. Took a considerable break after the fifth mile to buy some things from the farmer’s market. It’s so hot outside. I hate it.

And then ran the rest of the way with fruit veggies and kombucha jostling around your backpack?

Haha! In one hand I carried a tote bag with some vegetables. I didn’t buy very much. I ran the sixth mile because I wanted to get home faster and still had quite a bit left to walk after that.
