Four rounds at the track:
25 squats
5-6 pullups
10 dips
400m run

The conditioning sucked, mostly because of the weather. It’s going to be brutally hot here this week, and it’s already uncomfortable. I didn’t time the whole thing, but I managed to keep each run < 1:40, which is decent enough.

Funny stuff… so, I frequently go out of my way to shop at Costco. It’s a lengthy journey, and I always have to lug so much stuff. I do silly things to save money. The bus stops a half mile away from the warehouse and then over a mile from where I live. I annoyingly had to also buy toilet paper, so that adds to the suck: picture a 5’3 woman carrying 30-50 lbs on her back shouldering a tote bag, and bear hugging a giant pack of toilet paper all that way. In triple-digit temps.

It’s doable for me. I’ve done it before, not that terribly heavy. But still, today the bear hug carry felt a lot easier than usual, and I thought, “Nice, all those sandbag carries paid off for something.”

Now that is fUnCtIoNaL fitness.

Five hill sprints
800m cooldown

Had to rush this. Plus I had to run through the the thick grass rather than on the “path,” and it’s even hotter than yesterday. Not fun

I started doing farmers carries to make carrying groceries back from the wet market easier

Sometimes gym stuff actually pays off

It’s hilarious how much stronger I am at single-arm rows than on belt squats.

1 mile cooldown

Much better conditions today: though 90% humidity, it is almost thirty degrees cooler than it was the whole week. Decided to test my mile. I’m pleased with it given that I feel quite fatigued today and think I left a little bit on the table.

Also sold my assault bike yesterday. The buyer was pleased with how new it still looked and was happy to pay me $400. I think this was the right decision.

Damn. You can move. And pick up very heavy things. But I am telling you things you already know.

Some 90# sandbag carries

Soundtracked by the awesome new Foals record. The sandbag carries feel way more difficult even though I only loaded an extra ten pounds.

Also decided to take the caloric deficit a little more seriously – nothing drastic like I usually would, but enough that it takes a little willpower. I’ll probably start a proper program again after this cycle ends in a few days.

Untracked run 32 min (reminded me how much I hate summer!)

I’m pleased with the backoff sets. I took it easy on the assistance work because I felt beat up from yesterday.

First, I did a lot of chores after yesterday’s training, followed by a long walk to one of my favorite parks. But then immediately after I arrived my dear friend, who learned in the morning that she has COVID and whose puppy I showed here a couple weeks ago, requested I buy some stuff for her from CVS.

So, of course I agreed because she’s recovering from not only a frustrating surgery but now this as well. I had to walk all the way back home and head to the other side of town on foot to deliver it to her. So, I walked almost 30k steps. I usually don’t walk that much unless I’m on vacation. My arm is also twitching, presumably at least partially from those sandbag carries.

Hey Bagsy, how are you liking that adjustable KB you picked up from Titan?

Trying to decide between a set of those, or 2-3 sets of KBs in the common weights I’d use. I like the idea of having fewer pieces of equipment, but I also know myself and how much I hate setting stuff up to train with, so I wouldn’t be surprised if I found myself using them less if they’re a PITA to change the weights on.

I’m a fan. It’s clearly a Titan product because the paint chips so readily. In my experience you also have to be a little strategic when loading the bell to near or full capacity, but I haven’t had any major issues with it. I might consider buying another one because I would like to be able to do some double KB movements.

It’s not too big of a pain to swap the weights. It would surely be nice to have a collection of KBs, but I value having fewer things to move when I relocate over not having to adjust the weights, so it comes down to your priorities. I often set up the KB in between sets of another movement, so it doesn’t detract from my sessions much.

Appreciate that! I’ll have to mull it over a bit before I decide one way or the other.

Two-mile run 15:13

Another hot day and week. At this point I don’t want to know how bad July and August will be. Less than 50% humidity though, so at least I could breathe during this.
