The best I’ve ever felt was essentially being made to take some painkillers after a surgery. The nurse was really pushing them on me and I had just come out of surgery so I wasn’t too sure what was going on. The awareness that I was just quickly passing out was so great…hence why I didn’t take them again, haha. I don’t need that problem.

I was given dilaudid (sic) during my bouts with pancreatitis. That stuff is like morphine plus and I can definitely see why people get addicted to it. You get a great warm fuzz feeling and then kind of retreat into your own head before falling asleep.
I definitely don’t want pancreatitis a fourth time, but it’s probably a good thing that drug is tightly controlled and illegal in day to day life.
Edit: Also, texts to your significant other while under the influence of this drug will be utterly incomprehensible.

That sounds awful! I find it really really scared when I don’t have full control of mental faculties

I would like a drug that smoothed out emotion though.
If I could just stay at a steady mood 5/10 all the time, I’d be much better off

I like anesthesia more than any painkiller lol. I was prescribed oxycodone (not as strong as dilaudid, oof) after wisdom teeth removal, and I remember taking it after that. I also have some now but haven’t touched it this time around.

It’s been weird going from doing all the things to almost nothing… lots of walking though. 18k steps yesterday. I’m actually going to work in person today for a bit.

Holy shit is that normal in the US or did they fuck up completely during the procedure?!

It’s normal in the US, and a large reason we have an opiod crisis.

A lot of states are regulating this better now, but it’s still common.

Yeah I can see that. You don’t get anything over ibuprofen for a simple procedure like that here. Even that isn’t absolutely necessary.

Me too. I guess the standard for some procedures I’ve had in the past couple years is a versed/fentanyl combo. There’s those couple of moments when it kicks in of circling the drain that are really something, then afterward where it doesn’t feel like a lot of things. Like, I’m alert and aware, but just feel so smooth and floaty. And completely unencumbered by any bothersome thoughts.

I was kinda scared though when I woke up after a heart attack and realized how high I was. There was an out of the frying pan/into the fire moment of realization.

Yep. I have lived in one of the states where the opioid epidemic is relatively worse, though it’s definitely widespread, and it’s sad to see crisis hotlines blatantly advertised on public transit.

At the risk of seeming sensationalist, I would be scared if someone did not wake up feeling scared after that.

The fear for me, aside from the primary cause, was that I don’t know many people (was 47 at the time) who died from a heart attack, but I’ve known Tons of people who have relapsed and od’d after various injuries and whatnot.

It was a medical necessity, but I also got my butt to some meetings and stayed connected with my support network upon release.

I’m glad you’re still here! And staying up to snuff on your health.

I don’t think there’s a kind way to say it, but I’m surprised (and glad) my dad never experienced a heart attack when I was growing up.

I’m glad the surgery went well and your recovery to date has been smooth and uneventful! Do what you can to keep it that way by not rushing into too much activity

Thanks, Zack! I did laundry and cleaned my apartment yesterday, and I have been milking my permission to walk for all its worth. I miss lifting but am honestly enjoying the break a bit.

I somehow lost in all the chatter…what kind of procedure did you have done? It is quite possible your official answer to this is “piss off”, which is also cool.
