Bagsy's Training Log

As opposed to push pressing out of the rack.

I guess I say that to distinguish this from previous pressing sessions, where for a long time I started the reps from the rack.

I still find this the most impressive thing

@Bagsy That is AWESOME news!!! The moral of the story is: you can take all the Vitamin D (or any other supplements) in the world, but if you can’t absorb them they’re really only good for making your pee super expensive!

Goofed off a bit. I slept awfully after scrambling to finish last-minute chores. Not to mention being so flustered that I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment last night… what a nightmare. About to go for a long walk.

I got home from the hospital 1.5 hours ago and want to brag about myself; I feel golden.

Before the procedure, the nurses asked me if it was normal for my resting heart rate to be so low, which ranged from 45-55 bpm. Definitely in good shape. They were also shocked that I don’t rely on any medications, though that’s more of a reflection of America than anything else.

Then I woke up. I was able to walk around pretty soon afterwards. Peeing was a struggle, but otherwise I didn’t feel like anything happened to me. I got dressed and was able to read my book while I waited for my ride home, and the nurse didn’t understand how I was able to do that after anesthesia. Most patients are taken to their rides in a wheelchair, but I refused it because I felt so good. The nurse walking with me asked if I actually had surgery today.

After I got home I was wide awake and even walked 5k steps in my chilly neighborhood. I’m less “bloated” than I would be after a huge meal, and my throat barely hurts. Though I don’t want to speak too soon, this is a walk in the park compared to wisdom teeth surgery so far, and even that wasn’t really bad for me.

My post-procedure notes say that I’m not supposed to lift anything over 25 pounds for six weeks… oof. Gonna take it super easy until my two-week follow-up and see what my doctor thinks.

Essentially, I am very glad I take care of myself and lift heavy things. Haven’t consumed anything today besides water and some saltines, so I have to work on that now.

Something I personally think you should do more often. Badass.

I appreciate you!

I’m stoked for this success. Being in great health is, evidently, rare! You earned this “easy” recovery.

Thanks! Really, it helps knowing that you came back better than ever after not only an appendectomy, whose recovery time I’ve read is a bit worse than my procedure, but also debilitating tendonitis.

Glad to see you’re healthy after the surgery! Some people just do well with procedures and it sounds like you’re one of them. Normally those that handle surgery/anthesia well are in good shape too, which is the case for you. Just make sure you don’t let restlessness make you come back to lifting too soon!

Seems like you are kicking ass post-surgery! Not surprised.

Glad to see everything went well (although idk if anyone was surprised given your mental and physical strength)

did you get minimal invasive?
My surgery was minimal invasive and required them to pump air into my abdomen for visual purposes??
Anyways, the bloating was by far the worst part

Does your doctor know about your exercise history? Is the issue bracing or something mechanical
The general recommendations are for the general pop, who don’t lift.
My doc initially said 6months no lifting, but after I told him my experience, he reduced the time to 3 months. In the meantime, I was also able to do heavy split squats, light front squats and as much upper body as I wanted bc the main issue was to prevent scar tissue- ie no bending torso

Thanks! Yeah, anesthesia and I are friends, haha. As someone who finds it impossible to take naps, I actually kinda like it  after my wisdom teeth removal, I woke up and started talking about Kurt Vonnegut with my friend who accompanied me there.

I suspect this will be the issue after two weeks. I’m looking back at my log now though, and it looks like I haven’t taken a full week off/deload for longer than I thought. Last time was June of last year. So, that helps me feel less bad about resting.

Yeah, I feel great! Gonna reply to your email probably later today since I’ve been mostly lounging around at home and going for walks.

Thanks, that’s kind of you.

Yep, my surgery was minimally invasive. Also required gas like you describe. I’m bloated but not as bad as I expected. Not sure if you had a catheter during your procedure, but that was the worst part of it for me.

I told him last month that I lift, but he probably doesn’t know what that entails. Yesterday was only my second time meeting him, so he probably forgot anyway, lol. I’ll probably explain in more detail in a couple weeks.

Bracing. Risk of hernia.

Yeah, seems like it. The recommendations are very conservative, though for good reason.

That’s pretty extreme!

That’s encouraging. I hope my doctor can clear me for heavier stuff sooner, too. My doctor genuinely listened to me, which seems rarer these days. So, I’m optimistic.

yeah, I was cathed for 2 weeks, then had a drain in for another week… it was pretty bad

oof, yeah. That’s tough

They went in and took out 1/2 a kidney. THe surgery was minimally invasive, but a pretty major one.
There was also a small mistake made somewhere in the middle or something so he wanted to be extra careful

that’s awesome!
My doc was understanding bc he’d operated on olympic level athletes before

Oh my, I can’t imagine that… mine was only during the procedure. Pain is all gone now at least.

Ah, I don’t think that’s the case for my doctor, haha. I simply appreciate doctors who actually listen to women, which seems rare nowadays. But I hope he listens to me on that front as well.

I vaguely remember trying to high five the doc after he placed my last stent and was closing up.

With the hand/arm that he was closing up.

Then some Pink Floyd to drift off to.

Glad you’re mending quickly. It really does pay to be strong. :+1:

That sounds a little scary!

Thank you!

Not for me! All of the techs and stuff were going bonkers though.

I was in la-la land.

Dude, you almost make me want to get anesthetized again. It’s so zen. I love sleeping. This sounds so dark, hahaha
