Bad Squat Day, Videos Included

good stuff. you should keep trying weights youve already failed with, really grind down your CNS, then come back in a few weeks and talk about how your bench now sucks too. brilliant.

This ruined my day.

Well I went heavy today. ME full range bench, haven’t done full range in a few weeks, had been doing floor presses instead. Previous best was 1x300. Did 225, 255, 275 and 295 all easy singles. Went for 315 and missed it barely. I think I actually called for the spotter to take it prematurely, I probably could have ground it out, but pussied out a bit. Attempted it again and I think I had it but the spotter grabbed the bar and helped without my call, while the bar was still moving. So, even though I missed two PR attempts, I’m actually happy with the day, because I think I could have gotten either of those attempts, and easily could have done 305(would have been a smarter attempt, instead of 315). Attached is both videos of me failing, full disclosure and all.

I think that weight got in your head, you’ll get it next time. I think your form is pretty good (I wish I had your arch) except that you seemed to let the bar drop the for the last 2-3 inches to your chest. That momentum works against you. (don’t feel bad, I do the same shit every now and then when going for a PR) Good luck next time!

Form looks good. Stop squatting for a month and start pulling. Go back to squats and I bet it goes up. Can’t just pound out ME free squat after ME free squat

Monopoly

If all your lifts are starting to suck, you feel a little more run down than usual during the day, then its probably time to deload.

I can tell every 4 weeks or so that I need a deload, because I dont have the energy I used to have during the day, I feel just a little more tired, like I didnt sleep well, and my lifts feel hard. Like they said before, you cant base it off if you “feel like murdering shit”. All of us want to murder shit everyday we hit the gym, but sometimes you need to stop and listen to your body.

Regardless of how your form looks, it all depends on how it feels to you. Whenever I have a hard time feeling my squat properly, I always go back to box squats. For me, this really helps me concentrate on form.

Spend a week or so deloading and make sure you eat plenty during your deload week to provide adequate recovery.
