Bad News

Sorry to hear man. Stay strong, and this too shall pass. Try to spend as much time with your family and put all negative thoughts in the back burner. Best wishes to you and yours.

Really sorry to hear that, Veg.

Ride choppers and bang strippers.

My condolences. If you want you can give me your mother’s name (in PM) and I’ll have a few services dedicated to her.

aaaahhhhh fella, so sorry to hear this. Thank goodness you are able to be there for your Mom.

My thoughts are with you.

Stay strong for your family, Vegita. I’ll be thinking of you all. And please, do take time to unwind, whether it be on here, or some other pleasure. Just take some time.

Sorry to hear the bad news V, we will be praying for you and your family.

I am sorry to hear that. I’ll say a prayer for your family and Mama.

Yep.

Hi guys,

So the recent news is that we are still waiting for test results, the hospital food is surprisingly good. My mom is going to be starting chemo tonight or tomorrow and will be there for 4 weeks. Upon completion of that and if she goes into remission, she will need a bone marrow transplant or a stem cell transplant or something, I was unclear on that, but that is going to have her there for another 6 weeks.

Of course if she doesn’t go into remission after round 1 of chemo, then round 2 will have to be done which is another 4 weeks. And then the transplant.

She sent us kids a picture of her in the hospital bed and she is smiling ear to ear. What a weirdo. When she was undergoing her bone marrow biopsy (drilling into her hip bone and removing a sample of bone marrow) she was asking the assisting doctor if he could run and get her a hot fudge sunday.

^your mom sounds like a great lady man. She seems optimistic about it. I hope everything goes as easy as possible for her and she gets the best hot fudge sunday of all time!!

Makes me smile to hear about people that strong, an attitude like that can only help.

The stem cell transplant is what fixed us up in the end. As Alwyn says: “First they kill you…and then they back off a little!”. If it is an autologous transplant they will first harvest her own cells. Looks a bit weird seing your own blood being pumped into a box and then pumped back into you, but it works.

Then heavy chemo, which is not the same as nauseating or wiping you out. (That is another story. Some “mild” chemo left my son a shivering wreck with expertise in projectile vomiting, The “killer” one, he did hardly notice.)

Finally, the isolation ward, for some weeks. Teach you mom some computer games. She will be bored stiff.

Day by day, mate. Day by day

I think we got some better news today. No cancer cells in her spinal fluid. Any positive news at this point is just really good. Every little victory adds to her chances of a swift and complete recovery.

One small step brutha … glad it’s looking good thus far man…

You and your family are gonna look back on this in a year (after she’s clear) and realize what an incredible bond you all have.
