Avocados!

Hi, I have been recently eating avocados. They are great, I love them, can’t get enough of them. I know they are healthy.

But… I don’t see many people including them into their diets. Why is that? Do avocados have lots of calories from the fat?

I love them. I have a bacon avacado salad I make fairly frequently. Awesome for the AD.

1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 large egg, hard-boiled and peeled
3 cups watercress
3 ripe Hass avocados, pitted, peeled, and roughly chopped
6 slices bacon, cut into 1/2-inch pieces, cooked until crisp, and drained
1 green onion, very thinly sliced

In a small bowl, whisk together the lemon juice, salt and pepper. Add the olive oil in a slow, steady stream, whisking constantly. Chop or coarsely grate the egg and add it to the dressing. Refrigerate, covered, until needed.

Combine the watercress in a large serving bowl. Add the avocado, bacon and green onion. Pour the dressing over the salad and toss to combine well. Serve immediately.

that sounds unreal brant_drake i’ve gotta try that avocados are amazing, i usually just split mine in half remove the stone and fill the gap with a third cup of oats.

I’m going to try this recipe next time I go shopping.

Avacado and a little salt - eat it right out of the skin.

I think the reason you dont see many people include them are a few reasons. One they are rather expensive. To they are rather exotic, and 3 the taste is rather unique and some people dont like. Me though, I will split open and eat like an orange.

I get them at walmart for like 68 cents each, eat about 1 a day.

I question the quality of the advacado that you will get at walmart, but the one’s I get from safeway are about a buck a peice. I think they may be organic I need to check up on that.

An avacado is an avacado, no matter where you buy it.

And fuck organic.

preach

I avoided avocados for a long time cause I had a mild allergic reaction to them when I was young. Just recently started eating them again with no ill-effects & I can’t get enough of them. Almost any type of meat is great topped with melted cheese and avocado.

Sure. It’s not like the nutrients are determined by the soil it grew on or anything.

And it’s spelled avocado!

Says the guy made of silicon and germanium. Oh, wait…

Yes, but I have no control over that. And with the non-uniformity of the definition of “organic” it’s just a big headache I’d rather avoid. Plus it’s cheaper.

I did grow up in the South, so you got me there. I mean, thar. It sucks being inbred sometimes.

And hopefully some other cool stuff too.

Lixy, did I really just have to say this? I mean, come on. Stop taking everything so seriously.

Sorry for lashing at you like that. Had a tough morning.

Avocados are awesome, and yes, the organic kind is at least 50% more expensive than the regulars. Plus, the only organic avocados we get here in Sweden are Israeli products. That’s two excellent reasons I never bought any.

I love my Kenyan avocados. They go perfectly with salmon, olive oil and walnuts.

Again, please accept my apologies.

The reason most people don’t use avocados is that they don’t know what the hell to do with them. I crush them up and spread them on sandwiches, or slice them up for a sandwich. I’m expanding my uses for them, like spreading on steaks or eggs, or for eating on broccoli.
