I was wondering how many of you include avocados in a bulking diet? Since they have 350+ cals and 30g+ fat per cup I would like to eat more of them. The problem I have is how to eat them. What is the best and easiest way to eat 'em? Guacamole is good, but all those damn salty/fatty tortilla chips make me sick!
Try them on whole wheat bread (toasted or not) with some tomato and alfalfa sprouts (not bean sprouts). You can slice them and that works, but I prefer to mash it up and then it is held together by the alfalfa sprouts. Season to taste with salt, pepper, garlic powder, hot sauce etc…
Just add salt and they taste great.
I put them over salad with chicken…it is delicious. (Combined with any meat they are awesome!!)

Definitely the way to go. A great sandwich (that I discovered at a little deli near me) consists of a chicken breast, bacon, avocado, cheese, red pepper spread, lettuce and tomato on a kaiser roll. I think I have to go get one for lunch now…

As sort of a side note, I think Avacados should be in the diet regardless of if you’re bulking or maintaining. I personally don’t “cut” though, so that could have something to do with it.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions, I will be trying them all.
use them any place you would use oil or mayo. Sandwiches and salads are how I use them…mostly as a condiment.
Drizzle liberally with a good balsamic vinegar and enjoy.

i agree with all of this.
though i love fresh avocado with some lemon juice, i usually just go the convenient route: spicy guacamole from trader joe’s. it’s perfect when mixed in with a healthy serving of tuna, and i occasionally enjoy it alongside a big serving of black beans as well.

Is there something wrong with bean sprouts?
There are a LOT of gucamole recipes all over the Net; a lot of people like to ingest the advocados as some form of guacomole.
Mufasa
Here is my favorite.
Really quick and easy:
Guacomole
1 ripe avocado
Lemon Juice
Freshly ground white pepper (salt if you like)
-
Buy a nice, ripe avocado, free of bruises. To ripen an avocado, place it in a paper bag for a day or two.
-
Cut the avocado in half lengthwise, and remove the peel and pit.
-
In a glass bowl, mash the avocado with the lemon juice, (salt) and pepper until it is smooth. Add chopped tomato and yellow onion.
-
Cover and refrigerate it until ready to use.
VIOLA!

Try this recipe…
It’s an avacado/crab dip. Pretty simple to make (takes all of 2 minutes), healthy, and pretty tasty also.
6oz crab meat
1 large or 2 small ripe avacados
2-3 small green onions
celery stalks (used for dipping with)
Regarding the crab meat, I used canned. Fresh would be better, but it was really expensive at Kroger’s (~$9 or something crazy). Don’t get “lump” crap meat as it is more expensive and you don’t want the big chunks anyways. A 6oz can cost about $2 if you shop around.
Drain the crab meat of most of the juice. Split the avacado. Spoon out the meat and mash thoroughly with a fork. Chop up the green onion finely (I didn’t use the white part because I don’t like a lot of onion taste - use your judgement here). Mix all three parts together good. Eat it like a dip, using celery as the “chip”. Good Stuff!!!
I also added some salt, pepper, hot pepper sauce and lime juice from 1/2 of a lime for extra flavor, but all of this is optional.
This contains good protein from the crab meat, the good fat you’re supposed to get in your diet from the avacado, and fiber from the celery. Makes two servings of about 250 calories each.
Enjoy!

guacamole tastes awesome with fish, chicken, eggs, even beef - or spread on whole grain toast, as a sandwich spread, or as a pasta sauce or mixed with pasta sauce.

That’s how I eat 'em. Maybe add a pinch of salt, if you like.
More great suggestions! Thanks!
I just finnished lunch:
1 avocado
1 can tuna
some chopped onion
1/4 lime, juiced
s&p
All mixed up then washed down with a tall glass whole milk. BAM! All those calories were good!

Nothing really wrong with bean sprouts but I prefer alfalfa. Bean sprouts tend to fall away from themselves whereas Alfalfa stays together. Try both and see which one works best.
I stir fry them and add them to an omlette
or they are great liquidised as a sauce thickener.
I remember a men’s health article where they said don’t eat them, they are full of fat …lol
