Start studying how to pose. I cannot stress strongly enough how much it affects how you appear on stage or in pictures.
For example, in this picture you are doing exactly what I used to do, pinching your scapulae together instead of spreading your back and shoulders and wide as they can go. And posing involves the entire body. So, even though this is an upper body shot, you should be posing from the waist down, as well, even if that part of you is not visible in the shot, because it affects the rest of your posture.
A very good rule I learned from someone I wish I could remember years ago was that all posing starts from the toes. You plant your feet, starting with your toes, and start flexing from the toes and working your way upward through every muscle in your body until you hit your face, and you flex those muscles, too, into a smile! (^^)
Yes, posing is something I need a lot of work on. I can flex my lats independently and stuff just sitting down, but making them ‘spread’ is just something I have no idea how to really do.
And front shots I do much better with the ‘from the ground up’ strategy, because I can focus on calves then Quads, while I really have not idea how to flex my hamstrings without doing a leg curl motion. lol
Looking very good in your update, btw.
Thanks.
Youtube and google. Rinse. Repeat. I spent probably at least 50 hours just searching for walkthroughs and video of how to pose when I was competing. I’d give you the links to a couple of fantastic tutorials but I just don’t have them anymore. Really sorry.
Oh, and you need to spend as much if not MORE time practicing posing as you do training. At least until you get it down. You’ll see what I mean after you’ve gone through the entire process. Like everything else in this game, there are no shortcuts.
