One word: Sennheiser
Third vote for sennheiser.
I have had the same pair of HD-450II for about the past 15 years.
They’re nice.

I’d recommend the PX-100 for budget Senns. A lot of their other less expensive stuff is pretty crap.
Bose earbuds and quite comforts for me. It depends personally the earbuds sound as good as my $300 quite comforts. I would not get them unless you love bose sound. I really wont spend money on anything else but this is because my dad has about 5 bose systems so i grew up with it and think its the best quailty. Had shure earbuds, $100 one’s returned them in less than 5 minutes
For in-ear buds, I am a big fan of Shure. I bought an obsolete model (E2c)new about 2 years ago, got them on Ebay for about $50. I spend a lot of time on airplanes, and they work well for knocking down the noise, but also have good sound. I use them with a Sony Walkman MP3 player, and they sound really good. I also use them for watching movies on my laptop, and they work great for that as well.
There is a wide range of stuff out there. It all depends on what you want to spend and what you personally define as “quality” sound.

I liked the sound from both the Bose QC, and from the earbuds, but neither one was comfortable for me. I have a very big head, and the headphones squeezed to much. The earbuds didn’t fit tight enough to stay put.
The thing with the Shure earbuds is that they have to fit your ear perfect to seal right. If they don’t seal right, they sound like ass. Once you get the seal, they are nice.
I generally like Bose stuff as well. My home system is built from Bose components, Sony receiver, and a Polk sub.
so i think im going to go with sennheiser. are in ear the way to go? the difference between those and earbuds is like 50 bucks, is it worth it? is the sound difference notable?
i really want to grab DJ style headphones but they arent practical for streetwear.

Senn doesn’t make IEMs, only canalphones, which are more like a hybrid and sound pretty crap. The difference between IEMs and earbuds is very noticeable, especially because you need a seal for IEMs, which, when music is playing, cancels pretty much all outside noise.
If you want a straight earbud then get the Yuin PK2. If you want an IEM go Ety ER-6. Stay away from Senn for any in-ear type headphone.
^ IDK what youre talking about Viconte, those look like in-ears to me.
im trying to decide between the ones above and these
i like that these have theyre own little subwoofers on them and im wondering if theyd actually give it a better sound than the in-ears?
theyre about the same price too so weigh on em plz…i really wish i could just try em out …maybe ill see if Circuit City has any as the site does list them as a retailer.

Those are canalphones, not IEMs. Like I said, Sennheiser doesn’t make any good in-ear stuff. Since you don’t seem to care, buy whatever looks prettiest.

and dude i was reading the reviews for those Etymotics and i guess they dont replicate bass well and i listen to music with a lot of bass. thats why the sennheisers looked interesting because they basically come w/ a mini-subwoofer.

I’m not sure what game system your hubby has but here are some good wireless surround sound ones specially built for the Xbox 360:
woah woah? you know someone who not only talks on xbox live, but wants to enhance the quality of it? dude, i hear those people talk for 10 seconds and want to shoot myself so i usually just mute everyone in the game.
Vic, I’m just getting into FLAC etc. The sound over 128kps MP3’s is incredible!
Is there much difference between apple lossless [to play via an ipod] and FLAC?

He plays with his brother and cousin in NY. Plus, if I don’t have to hear shooting in my ear and dogs biting my throat, I’m a much happier camper.
It’s good for the knitting.

Is there much difference between apple lossless [to play via an ipod] and FLAC; and since I’m upgrading my music’s fidelity what would be the next logical step after a pair of CX300 headphones [and don’t say CX400’s - I’m way ahead of you!]

I honestly never noticed much of a difference between lossy and lossless, myself. other guys will disagree, but I’ve seen double-blind tests with much higher-end gear than what you have that suggested the difference is extremely subtle, at best. I encode ALAC myself, or did, back when I still had my portable rig. FLAC is too much a pain in the ass to be worth it, and I don’t think there’s any difference, anyway.
What cans you should get depends on what you want (in-ear, open, closed) price range, if you want to shell out for an amp, etc.
And Live, etymotics are a bit bass shy, but they make up for it in every other way. I used to be a basshead myself, until I got used to higher fidelity sound that doesn’t rely on pure flabby bass boom to sound like music. You’re not going to find big bass sound in an earphone, sadly. IEMs, like Etys, will give you pretty good bass once you get a good seal, but it’s still not going to match what you’re used to. If you don’t mind a classic over-the-head style, Senn PX-100 or Koss Portapro would be better choices for bass in your price range. If you want full-size cans, and want to spend more, then you can start to think about real bassy headphones.
