Can’t you knit quietly in some other room?
These are what I use for head phones. Its a good deal if you think about quality.

I bought the Sony MDR-600 for about $100. They sound awesome, are comfortable and have held up since I bought them about 4 years ago.
The Beats by Dre headphones sound nice but are $350.
Throw in another 50-100$ and we can start talking about acceptable headphones.
I presently own:

Which are great, but useless unless you have a lot of good quality music.

my friend has an older pair of Sonys, he paid a rediculously low price for them but they are best headphones ive ever used.
im not sure which would be better though as far as practicality, oversized headphones that cover whole ear or the ones that apply directly to earhole. i dont want to mess up my hair and i feel like the other option is just more practical…but oversized sound so much better…hmm.
the two i use are both Bang & Olufsen.
i have the A8’s (run about $150)
http://www.bang-olufsen.com/earphones
and the Form2’s (run about $100)
http://www.bang-olufsen.com/form2
i’d highly suggest either one. if you like in-ear go for the A8, if you like a more classic look, go Form2.

I haven’t bought a pair of headphoes in years, but I used to own a pair of both. I would wear the oversized in the cold months to cover my ears and the others the rest of the year. This is when I was in high school and I was outside bus-hopping all the time.
I don’t do a lot of headphone listening so I just couldn’t justify spending a lot, but these get a lot out of my Zen: http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Bass-Freq-Earbuds-Bling/dp/B000FUESSU/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1232740476&sr=8-1
Can anyone honestly say that their mp3 player puts out a high enough quality of sound to warrant dropping over $100 on earbuds?

you’d be surprised. i’d say that most good mp3 players on the market do, it’s just that they come with incredibly shitty headphones so most people would never know. when i bought my most recent player (i bought an ipod shuffle for the gym) i just threw out the earbuds it came with because they sound so bad.
Check out the Etymotics. The ER-6i model goes for about $80 on Amazon. They’re great for the gym since they’re like ear plugs and they block out exterior sound very well (~25dB).
Disadvantages include:
You have to experiment with different rubber or foam eartips (included) to get a good fit.
Not good for cycling or use in windy conditions since they’ll whistle.
You have to buy replacement filters occasionally.

(Don’t buy them from Etymotic, they charge $150!)
I have Shure SE110 and Bose TriPort, both cost between 89.99 and 99.99 depending on sales. But i have only used the Shure headphones once, i love the Bose Triports too much
Those are links to the two i own, but i would suggest any headphone that bose makes, in ear or over ear, they just sound a lot better than any other headphone in the price range.
I used the Sony MDRs for studio monitoring and playback from a mixer and they sound great. I have also used them plugged into my computer (which I do frequently) and I have plugged them into my ipod (which they sound great on as well)
I have other headphones for use outside of my home that are more practical for traveling, but if I’m home and stationary, I pop those bad boys on and get lost in sound.
My next investment however will be the Beats by Dre headphones. I listened to them in Best Buy and was blown away!

I don’t know about wireless, but I use a pair of audio technica A900s for gaming. Best pair of headphones I’ve ever used.
Do you want cans or in ear monitors?
I use Sennheiser HD25-1-II and I love them. Perfect for working or just relaxing.
Other than that, I’d recommend looking into Ultimate Ears.
Alessandro MS-1 for open cans. Etymotic ER-6 for IEMs. I doubt you want to shell out for an amp, but it makes a difference. UE stuff is overrated unless you go custom, which is way out of your price range.
Don’t go BnO. They look cool but sound shite. Stay away from Bose as a rule.
I’m going to go away before my latent audiophile awakens and eats all my money again. Excuse me while I go cry in the fetal position.
I have a pair of Ultrasone hfi-700s. The only thing I’d trade them for are a higher-end line of Ultrasone or some Grados.
i got these about 2 weeks ago and am in love with them. the smal dongle plugs into the bottom of your ipod, you click a button on the headphones and away you go. sound quality is surperb, no crackle of hiss like i thought there would be with it being wireless.
also works easily with my phone incase i forget my ipod or whatever.
