Attention T-Vixens!!!

Why do women experience an increase in appetite during PMS? I think it is just an excuse for my girlfriend to stuff her face; however, she says it has to do with hormones. Which is true? Is this all in her head?

I don’t get an increased appetite, I just get sad for no good reason. Pregancy causes an increase in appetite even from the very begining when the baby is not big enough to add to nutritional needs - maybe hormones can play a part in some women. It’s all guesses to me.

It may be all in her head, but let me tell you it’s in mine - and most of my friend’s - heads too! For two days the week before my period all I can think about is food. the rest of the month I am fine, I stick to my 5 small meals a day, and I’m not ‘starving’ then …WHAM… all I can think about is food, to the point of obsession. I personally don’t get moody, retain water or get PMS, I just want to eat every waking minute for two days straight. (We should put this one in the ‘gang’ next time, what do you think Chris?)

by some coincidence, I think I saw this mentioned in an onlne article yesterday and the author attributed the increase in appetite/cravings to low levels of serotonin. so i don’t think she’s just making an excuse - time to lace her food with some 5HTP

thank gawd i’m not the only one!
i can eat a reasonable meal and be starving before i leave the dining room! i have all the other classic PMS symptoms, too. be patient with your girl.
someone suggested 5-HTTP: becuz of medication, i can’t try something like that, but does anyone have any other suggestions? to possibly decrease this urge to eat through three supermarket aisles in 30 minutes?

I don’t think in in the head. A couple times a year (not every month) I have to sit down and eat 1/2 box of chocolate with nuts and a huge glass of 2% milk. I’m not sure what’s in that combination, but it fixes everything
