True for so many things doc, but really, you want to lift weights, you need to get around big strong guys who lift weights. I saw you said a few times about how many people here that don’t even train.
I do train, but I learned more about training by doing it than talking about it. You can get some technical knowledge on training here, but you need to lift, eat, and rest.
And get around people who are better that do it.
I’m not that anonymous, really. I post over at Elite in the Q&A. Dave Tate trusted my knowledge and ability to answer questions, after meeting me and being treated by me.
Of course some of of the initial stuff was based from the net, like a few orders for stuff, but most was from face to face.
I don’t want to discount the useful nature of the net, but like any tool you need to use it properly.
You can talk cooking all you want, but you need to fire up that grill to make a great steak, just as you need to fire a gun at a range, ride a motorcycle, or lift weights.
I assume you’re a pretty big strong guy, I think you posted a pic once if I recall. I would learn more from you as a newbie in person as opposed to net jockeys that don’t lift.
I don’t come here to do much learning of basic material. I’m not a newbie and I have a solid educational background in biology and physiology. I come here to discuss bodybuilding, period. I do that because I avoid doing so, for the most part, in my personal life unless I am at the gym. That is the only time I am around people who even understand my own drives and motivations. NONE of my friends are as dedicated as I am about hitting the gym regularly.
My pics are in my profile, and quite a few people here have been reading shit from me since I was a MOD on FLEX.com back when it was actually worth reading. That was back when I was a sophomore in college as a Biology major.
I am simply pointing out that while some of you seem to consider the internet just a play toy for fantasy, some of us are here for more serious reasons. [/quote]
One of the same reasons I’m here. but having a family allows me only so much time for the lifting talk. And it’s fun to talk lifting, because as you said very few understand or want to hear about lifting stuff in the real world,so to speak.
If I deadlift 600 pounds that means as much to most people as if I do 300. They don’t get it. But you yourself said many people need to do more training than talking about training or advising people. I know I’m paraphrasing here, but I think you understand my point.
But one problem with this instant access to info and talk on a subject is that many stuff is a rehash of what was said so many times before.
This causes us with a greater degree of experience to get fed up and grow weary of the process. but many just don’t realize that talking isn’t doing. Information is a powerful tool.
But as any craftsman will tell you, having a tool doesn’t equate your ability to use it. To be successful at weights you need more time under the bar than on the net. Dave Tate is doing very well in his business by using the net properly. He has increased his exposure tremendously by using this tool.
But he learned the weight from Louie and others. I love shooting and can find any info in a google search in regards to gun prices, loading data, gun reviews, and shooting technique. But you need the range time to put that shot were it counts when it counts.
