CL, I was very much brought up that way. And I am thankful for it. Especially given the current state of the world. Doing my best to pass it along to my kids. They get some strange looks with their “sirs” and “ma’ams”.
Paul, it felt good for it to go back up. Now…to see if we can breach the barrier!
Biker, I would almost pay money to be 31 again. As it is, if I can triple 315# by the time I am 48, I will be ecstatic.
And my back is griping about it today. But, I wear a belt, and pretty damned tight, when at or above 135#. Helps me keep that area a little more stable.
Actually stuck with the plan, today. Didn’t want to exceed 225# on bench and just feel out the pec.
It twinged a little, but the weight seemed right and I changed over to MP grip for the last two sets. That still twinged, just not as much.
BB Shrugs - just to get some load since bench was light

405x10 - one count (thousand and one) pause at the top
Face Pulls - alternating grip

80x12 - Paused at the back
I am worn slap out. Starting Thursday afternoon and going through yesterday evening, helped my brother get his BBQ (smoking 240# of pork) done, split more firewood, mowed the grass, planted/caged tomatoes, helped setup tables and chairs, set up camp, logged 13.5 miles on my Fitbit and managed to grab a piece of rebar that had, previously, been over the fire. Even after sleeping last night, I am worn out.
Fortunately, I got ice on my hand quick enough that it killed the fire. A few very small blisters, but nothing major and it didn’t impact lifting.
Now, back over there to watch the nephews fish and chat with Dad and my brother.
CL, it was okay. Lexie and I got home around 2:00 and declared it a pizza and horror movie night.
Paul, following the pizza and horror movie, I crashed about 11:30. I woke up at 8:15!! And still felt tired.
Then it was off to the gym for quick in and out…
Lat Pulls

Headed home…
Then I did the weed eating that Lexie was supposed to do at the neighbors. (She had to have both of her toenails removed off her big toes, since they were both severely ingrown and infected.) I followed that with weed eating our place. Found a 3’ or so garter snake while doing so.
Now I am in the process of cleaning out closets. Too much crap around here that we have either outgrown or don’t use.
Gotta work (actual paying work) in just a bit. Hopefully, tonight, we can go out to eat.
I really, really, really can’t wait to get back to work, tomorrow, so this train slows down.
I think several things caught up with me. Or, maybe, it was just one of those days.
Military Press

175x5
215x5

285x2 - wanted 3. Had a wonky unrack that killed any chance at it…if I ever had one.
285x1
225x8 - ran out of air. I was still putting them up strong, but was having to stop every rep, at the end, to breathe.
Reverse Flyes
55x10x2
45x10x2
Called it there. My dad, brother and I are going out to eat for my early birthday dinner. So, I needed to get home.
I wouldn’t call it a bad workout. It just felt really flat. 315# would not have gone today. In fact, having hit 315#, last week, might have contributed to my mindset.
Have run into that before. Hit a PR in a lift an come back thinking anything up to and including that should be “easy”. Doesn’t work that way. Now you got to lock in that new PR as the new normal. BTW, those are some nice reverse flyes.
Harry, I don’t know that I was expecting “easy”, but I was expecting more. I think I am going to try a few weeks where I don’t exceed 90% of max. That is technically, 283.5#, but I will use 285#. I would like back to back triples there (back to back as in a triple one week and the following week, not in the same workout) before moving to 290#. Once I can do back to back with 290#, I will consider going for 320#.
I need a new goal, though. A target… 315# was an easy goal, since it was 3 plates per side. It was a visual milestone as well as numerical. The next visual milestone, to me, is 365#. I don’t know that I will ever get that, though I damned sure plan to chase it. Maybe 320#, just to get past 315# and then make 335# the next goal. Of course, a triple at 315# would be more impressive to me.
CL, I was definitely lifting earlier than normal. That didn’t help.
They wanted to go to a buffet at a casino, since they had prime rib tonight. When we got there, there was a 2 hour wait. So, we went to Texas Roadhouse, which I preferred anyway. The ribeye was excellent!
And there is nothing like steak after a workout!
You can never go wrong with steak!! Well, there was that one time, never mind…lol Glad you had a good dinner, even if the workout didn’t meet your standards. Happy Birthday… what ever day it is.
