Atlas Shrugged; I Pressed

335 x 8 is huge. Great PR.

Big Man +Big Bench -= great stuff! Excellent work Strick!!

335x8 is freaking badass buddy.

Thanks Gents. I actually hit what I was hoping for, even with the wonky bar path, on the 1st rep.

Sunday’s workout was pretty much about arms. I am going to try, one more time, to see if I can get a bump where my bicep peak is supposed to be. I have tried, it seems like, a million things and can never seem to get a peak…at all. So…

Practice tonight, games on Tuesday and Thursday, workout on Wednesday, Dad gets in town on Friday, football tournament this weekend. I’m already tired…lol. I am very much looking forward to the visit and know that Joshua is going to try to show off for GrandPa. Hopefully that works out… Not that he could do poorly in GrandPa’s eyes. Sure wish I knew where all that understanding was back when I was playing…lol.

Important news 1st…boys won their game, last night, 34 - 6. The 6 was actually humorous. They tried to run up the middle and everyone converged. I mean all 22 players were in one huge ball. After a good 2 seconds (seemed like more), this little guy comes puttering out of the mob. He was 15 yards down field before anyone, from either team, new what was going on…lol.
#1 team is on slate for tomorrow. I sure hope the boys learn to fire off the ball between here and yon.

Also, GrandPa is getting to town on Friday. He will get to watch the “Beast in Pink” (breast cancer awareness) tournament, this weekend, He will get to see his grandson play some, hopefully good, football.

Workout

“Shoulder” is still bothering me. After a bit of reflection and testing, I am pretty sure that the biggest issue is with my right bicep tendon. For those who recall, years ago, I had neverending issues with my left bicep tendon, where it ties into my shoulder. Now is seems to be in my right. Great…
I really need to rest it, but am too damned hard-headed.

That’s it. My next workout will be with my Dad here. Wonder if I can get him to hang out in the weight room? Maybe do a curl or something…

Strick- strong work as always. Good luck to the boys and enjoy the time with your dad.

Might not be a bad thing to take the weekend off, at least from pressing. In hindsight I ignored a few warning signs and ending up completely tearing my left distal bicep tendon at my last meet. Much better to nurse it a little now than have to go through the surgery and recovery issues like I did.

Great your dad is in decent enough shape for him to do a set of curls. Hope your son kicks butt this next game. Paul Carter did curls with just the bar for sets of 100 to get his biceps issue to calm down. A lot of blood in the area.

DBasler, that is sage advice. I THINK that the issue might be that I have narrowed my MP grip too much. The lower arm angle it is creating stresses my biceps. If that doesn’t help, I will have to back off MP for a week or so.

Steve, he could workout with me, but he chose to watch the GA vs TN game instead…lol.

Fast update, as we are off to a game in a few minutes.

Thursdays game against the #1 team in our league. We decimated them…33 - 0.
We turned around today, in a tournament, and lost to the #1 team from OKC…42 - 0. Sometimes life sucks
Got so mad Thursday night that I lost the ability to speak coherently. Fortunately, I realized this and walked away before I ended up in jail. I can’t remember the last time that I have been so angry that I couldn’t verbally express it. Knowing that the loss of verbal expression leaves only physical expression, I removed myself from the situation. Still not pleased about the whole thing, but getting over it.

Today…alternated sets

5-3-1 +1

95x10
135x10
185x5

350x6 - PR +2 Reps - should have had the 7th rep. After recovering from crappy bar path on 2nd, though…just gassed.

Face Pulls
70x10x3
100x12x3
130x12x4
130x8 , 95x6 , 60x10 - drop set

Really wish that 7th rep had gone at 350#. I screwed my bar path on the 2nd rep and spent a lot of gas on recovering it. Happy with a 2 rep PR, though.

Now, off to the 2nd game of the tournament. It is double elimination. This team should be easier, though not a guaranteed win.

Bench

2nd game was a win. I don’t recall the scaore but it was onlyby a touchdown.
Next game is at 12:00, today. Workout 1st, if I can squeeze it in before.

Beastly work. And great stories. I’m glad things are going well for you.

Thanks, Jack.

Well, we bowed out early. We won the 2nd game, as expected. Even so, we had to come back to do it. We wen’t out on the next game. We should have won that one, but the boys were tired. Guess they need cardio as well…lol.
Joshua did play his best game of the year, though. Multiple times he drove his block 5+ yards down field. On three ocassions they ended up on their back. He also got in on three tackles and had a fumble recovery.

Dad is still in town. He has been able to see three football games and will be here to see the one on Thursday, as well as my daughter’s choir concert, tonight. His visit always reminds me of how far away from home I actually am. The kids love him to pieces. I just wish we lived closer.

Military Press tomorrow. Until then…

Great work coach. Good luck on Thursday.

Awesome stuff Coach!!

Thanks Steve, Paul!

Military Press! Dad was here to help root me on and that was enough to get 315x1 on video.

Lats fried… Feeling good about the military… Glad Dad was here to see it.
Football game tomorrow night. Daughter’s concert, last night. Go, go, go…

ALSO…my youngest watched “Friday Night Lights” for the 2nd time, today, with Grandpa. Somehow, he missed that they lost, when he watched it last time. He was DEVASTATED! When I got home from work, he was in the back yard, face down on the trampoline, crying. Then he went into a rage and started attacking things in the yard. Apparently, he takes losing about as well as I do.

We purged his system by watching “The Longest Yard”…lol.

Crazy MP. What’s the next MP goal. 405? Didn’t realize you worked out on FSU Ave.

Steve I want to know what the sign in the power rack says…my take is " Don’t poke the Bear he gets angry if you do"

Strick huge pressing Big Man…every time I watch one of your vids I laugh cause you MP more than I bench…

Thanks, Steve. Next goal? I have no clue!? I know I want to get to where I can rep 315#. My next goal might just be to put a 2.5# plate on each side and try that…just so I can say that I can MP more than 3 plates…lol.
FSU Avenue…I was a big Bobby Bowden fan. I still like FSU. I am more of an SEC fan. But barring an SEC national champion, FSU all the way!

No signs in the rack, OG. I am thinking of putting a few sayings up for Joshua, though…

“If you think training is hard, try losing!” I have also seen that with “sucks”, instead of “hard”.
“Fear no one, hit everyone!” Something I just kept telling him at practice.
“Pain is temporary, Victory is forever!”

Anyway, something along those lines. And, yes, I have been mistaken for a bear. I am pretty sure that it is the fur coat.

Bench Day…

Well, UGA lost. They are good for that at least a couple of times per year. Texas won! Not that I like Texas. In fact, I can’t stand Mack Brown. OU losing causes great misery to some folks I like to see experiencing it, though. So…Muahahahahahahahaha…

Suffering from a mild cold/upper respiratory issue. I GUESS that is why I hit the wall when I did, on the rep out set. I was aiming for 12 reps. The 1st 9 flew up. 10 and 11 were strong. Halfway through the 12th rep, though, I hit a wall…HARD.

Oh…and I decided to skip my deload. I just pretended it wasn’t supposed to happen, added 5# to my calculator and did the 5-5-5 week.

The set following the rep out still proves to be a challenge. I am able to get the reps, strong, and even able to let the bar sink into my chest on each rep. It is definitely hard to keep the mind right after a rep out, though.

That’s some strong benching right there… I know you were aiming for 12 and that will fall soon enough, but a rep PR at 320 is nothing to sneeze about. Nice work…

Strong pressing Strick, nice PR. Today was the first time I noticed you are a fellow false grip bencher- be careful you know that is dangerous lol.
