ATG Squatter and Box Squats

WHy bother with boxes? The mark of our depth is not parallel, it happens when we physcially can;t go lower.

under that reasoning, just dead stop at the bottom of the squat at full measure and rocket back up.

Furthermoe, keep the stretch and the bounce, it is a perfectly viable technique for gaining strength. The movement after all is the full squat, not the deadsquat.

Stay true to your roots.

If you read my initial post, I think it is very useful and we actually run brief cycles of high bar Oly style squatting.

I was just suggesting that if he finds his sticking point problematic then adapt a different sytle of squatting as it is unlikely to change. The only thing you can do is stay as tight as possible and on a heavy attempt, let out a little air at that transition to speed things up.

While I understand fuzzy’s comments about staying true to your roots, I think if your goal is general strength/fitness why not do periodic cycles of diffent styles of squatting?

The other thing I would point out to the OP is there is lots of territory between high bar Oly style squatting and wide stance, low bar PL squatting. Most lifters I know use a moderate stance and choose a bar position on their back that optimizes their leverages and ability to hit legal depth.

Is this thread still open for questions? lol

Would y’all say that an olympic squat is useful for anything other than oly lifts? Or would it be better to pause at parallel?

Also… What do you think of using both high bar and low bar squats in a program? The idea being to use the high bar as more of a quad builder and the low bar as more of a posterior chain exercise.[/quote]

There are a bunch of ways to train the posterior and anterior chain what you described would be a possibility although as a personal preference I would rather do different movements for both but thats just me.

Also you have to take into consideration what you are training for, olympic lifts and going deep into the squat is pretty much a must. Bodybuilding and the choices are much much greater same with athletes.

Some athletes use very deep squats and do lots of posterior chain accessory work, others do the low bar parallel squat or box squat and do quad accessory and a bit of posterior chain accessory, some only do single leg work and do accessory movements for the posterior chain.

Like I said choices are many especially if you are just trying to get generally stronger legs (not for powerlifting or oly lifting) or bigger legs.
