Assisted GHR?

I cant perform regular bw GHR, but would like to start working toward it. I want to do these on my ME day at the end of the workout, should I do some negatives, with a pushup at the end or some form of assisted GHR.

I was thinking I could use a resistance band and have someone behind me hold it?

yes both ideas will work. i prefer pushing off the handles

I have successfully used bands to assist in the past. A little band tension goes a long way and you’ll gain strength quickly (at least I did).

thanks guys, ya i dont think i need much band assistance, i’ll try with a light band for sets of 8-10 and then progress toward no band.

Does you gym have a GHR machine or are you working out at home…

or are you improvising in your gym?

I’ve never been to a single commercial gym that has one. So sad.

Ya they dont have one at my gym.

Theres an elevated deadlift platform, which i put my fee under. I then put a rubber pad under my knees, and im set.

Do them on lat pulldown machine - facing away from the machine, kneeling where you would sit and your feet under the pad that would hold your knees down.

Pull the bar down behind your neck and keep actively pressing it there - now simply perform some GHR’s!

Obviously the greater the weight you select the easier the GHR.

A few people have caught onto this idea (but not many)… an example of someone doing it with a rope attachment is here:

good idea benmore thx

my GHRs are at home and involve my bedpost and two towels, one beneath my knees and one on my ankles !

I haven’t done any iso hamstring movements before, most strong squatters (both oly and PL) can do many of these for reps? Are there other tests of relative hamstring strength and a good guide relative to your squat and other major lifts? I am curious now, my hamstrings have gotta be lagging behind major!

Thanks benmore, thats awesome. I had heard about doing them on the pulldown machine, but didnt realize you actually used machine for assistance. Thats simply awesome, doing them tommorow.

I tried doing them on the pulldown machine, but it didn’t work. The seat angles in, and is too narrow where your knees would rest.

Instead we did them with a pushup at the bottom. Not optimal, but i guess it will work.

had the same problem. back to the bedpost GHRs!

anyone have an answer the ? I asked above?

Ive been doing ballistic pushup GHRs. They make it hard to walk after a few sets.
