You need a bench, big time!
I built my bench out of wood and can send you some pics if you want to see how I put it together.
Don’t like my ghetto rigged box? haha. Also, no point on me building one because I am moving to the east side of Michigan and have to get an apartment. Wont be bringing most of my stuff and will have to go to a “gym”. All I am bringing is my dumbbells, blast straps, and kettlebell. Gotta find a good gym near Troy now.
You should look up Barwis Methods. Somewhere around there ? Theres a thread on it in GAL.
Ahhh, that sucks man. Moving from a ghetto garage set up to a top of the line gym is still a downgrade in my opinion. I hate having to go to a gym with all the douches and follow rules and listen to music that I don’t like. I hope you find a really good one though!
Im hoping I will be about 35m from Detroit Barbell, but that is still a decent drive. If not I am looking into a Powerhouse Gym, hoping that it would allow chalk, deadlifts, and any other thing I want. I would love to keep my home setup, but I would also love training at Detroit Barbell as well if possible. Who knows.
Just remember to bring a gun with you when you go into Detroit lol
Nice work! There are definitely some advantages to training with a bench like that, actually. I used to have a super ghetto setup when I first started training. Everything was made out of wood except for the barbell and weights. I lifted on a piece of plywood that I laid out on the sand floor of our barn so it wasn’t ever even and the sides had been beaten down about 4 inches from dropping barbells so every deadlift was a deficit deadlift lol. The first time I went to a meet and lifted on a high quality platform with a deadlift bar and calibrated plates I hit a 50lb PR!
So I found an apartment to live in! It is literally .8 miles from my work, like 1 mile from my bank, and like 1.5 miles from a Kroger. Going to work 4 ten hour days and bike to work or walk as much as possible. I am in an awesome location, but broke as hell for like two months. I think I will be able to find a gym, looking at a Powerhouse gym in either Troy or Madison Heights. 20 bucks a month, and they look decent, I will prolly check them out the day after I move in. Move in is the 16th, holy crap big boy life is coming soon. Looks like Ramen noodles and eggs for a month so I can get to a gym.
I remember when I moved out and it was in the spring. I went to five guys and ordered, tried to swipe my debit card and it got decline, thought oh it must just be their machine…went and checked my balance and I had $0.16 in my account $8 in my wallet and 1/4 tank of gas. Moral of the story: check your balance biweekly

Thats terrifying, luckily the bank I go to send me emails everyday with checking and savings balance.
Squat- barx10, 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 275x3, 295x2, 315x2
Deadlift- 225x3, 275x3, 315x1, 345x1, 365x4 PR, 315x8 Form PR
Front squat- 185 10x3
Front squat walkout- 335 (walkout, hold 10s, rack) x5 reps
Hanging knee raise- BW 3x5
Took 70m. Squats felt really good, did them all beltless too. Best squats have felt in the last two weeks form wise. Think that quad work form last session did some good. Deadlifts were good, 365 moved a hell of a lot faster than my previous PR and got another rep as well. 315 went good too, felt harder than it looked, killed my posterior stuffs. Form held up better than last 315x8, so form PR. Front squats felt easy, should add reps or somethin next time. Or lunges instead. Heavy walkouts felt like a friggen elephant. Leg raises burned yo. Good session, good squats, deadlift PR’s.
Took 80m. Press felt pretty good, ties my 4 rep PR, but did it last time with a belt. Dont get much out of a belt, but still beltless PR. Push press PR, thought I would get the 5th rep but alas not today. Felt like weighted chins today, 45x3 is a 10 pound weight PR but this time I am 20 pounds heavier. BW was tough and felt the back a lot. DB bench killed my boobies, 85’s is heaviest I have tried. Feel like its harder to keep my upper back tight with DB’s, gotta work on it. Rows were decent, felt them a little mid and upper back. Prolly will do cable or chest supported rows in a real gym. DB’s annoy me, barbell feels odd, chest supported is uncomfortable as hell with my set up. Good session, lots of PR’s.
Squat-barx10, 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 275x3, 295x2, 315x1, 335x1, belt on 350x2 PR, 315x2, 225x20… PR
Rdl- 185x10, 205x10, 225x10, 185+light band x10
Bulgarian lunge- 85 4x10 right, 3x10 left
Ab wheel- 2x8
Took 75m. Squats were good until the second rep at 350, then felt like shit. Got pissed so did 20 reps. Laid down for a bit then rdls were good for the hams. Lunges kicked my thighs and asses ass. Decent session, got a nice pr at 350 and legs kill today.
Took 80m. Felt like hammering bench. Felt like 225 was better form so form PR? Paused were kinda easy, felt real fast. Floor press killed triceps, pushups sucked. Chins were decent. Lots of rows, decent squeeze. Elbow kept cracking like a dick today. Felt good after curls tho. Posting from phone so blurbs are shorter. People can see the videos still right? Hopefully phone works for this stuff.
Squat- barx10, 135x5, 185x5, 225x3, 275x3, 295x2, 315x4 PR
Deadlift- 225x3, 275x3, 315x2, 345x1, 365x6 PR comin for you chobbs, 315x10 PR
Fat grip deadlift- 135x5, 155x5, 185x5
Bulgarian lunge deficit- 85 3x12 each leg
Took 75m. Squats felt good, lowered my depth like an inch, thought they looked good besides the third. Deads got slightly sloppy the last two or so. Form is dofferent with and without belt. Fat grips were easy. Lunges kick my ass hardcore. Hopefully this video works loftearman
So it looks like I will be able to train at Detroit Barbell twice a week, and then go to another gym really close the rest of the week. Somewhat pricey but I really want to go to Detroit Barbell, feel like I can learn a bunch and training on track. Looks like weekends are going to be awesome.
Took 70m. No video cuz I didnt feel like it. Felt more focused on training because of it. Press was like 9-9.5 rpe, maybe another rep. Chins were about the same. Noice chinup pr. Db bench was like a 9. Rows were like and 8.5-9. So all of them I think i could have hit another rep. Damn good session. Then pumped up real quick at the end. Db bench gives me a crazy pump along with the rows.
